One of the rare opportunity to be invited to be a part in the Taiwan Beauty Power Networking Event which was held earlier this week. I have missed the French networking event two years ago and I ain’t going to miss this one. K-Beauty have been taking over Malaysia recently by storm and as a beauty blogger, it is my duty to know what is out there from Taiwanese beauty. Invited attendees includes top 2 health, beauty and personal chains – Guardian and Watsons as well as beauty companies and beauty bloggers as well as Youtubers.

The event was organized by Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) , Taiwan and implemented by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur with 11 Taiwanese leading beauty brands delegates . These delegates have formed an alliance known as the Taiwan Beauty Alliance to promote and further grow the popularity of Taiwanese beauty industry. Their duty is to introduce and share Taiwanese beauty to other countries. After the networking event, the delegates paid a visit to Watsons and Guardian to see if they can expand their brand here for us in Malaysia.

A little background on what Taiwan Beauty Alliance is. The alliance consists of 11 distinguised Taiwanese beauty brands, carefully selected that possess 5 major features: biotechnological, medical, innovative, fashion-forward and green. For example, 76-year old Cellina is a collective memory among Taiwanese people. On the other hand, 23.5’N has been a rising star since its establishment 6 years ago.

23.5’N

This has got to be my favourite brand of all. After trying out their mask series, I am sold. This is a rising brand that makes good use of Taiwanese manufacturing process.

CELLINA

Cellina is known for their history of 76-years among Taiwanese people. Their best-seller and most sought after product is actually body cream that is similar to Nivea. Even the packaging is similar too. Quite the affordable too.

DR JOU

Dr Jou, which I know as Dr Morita here in Malaysia is known for its aesthetic facial sheet mask. Their other brand Dr Morite launched the mask series in Malaysia last year. It is one of the most high popularity facial mask in Asia.

DR WU

Dr Wu is not a stranger here in Malaysia. You can find the brand in SaSa outlets. Dr Wu is known to be Taiwan’s No.1 dermatological brand.

FOR BELOVED ONE

The brand that I most wanted to meet and talk to was For Beloved One. Unfortunately they are the only brand that was not present at the networking event . However, For Beloved One is already available at our Sephora stores for quite some time. Come to think of it, I still have their whitening range which I have yet to use.

MASKINGDOM

The most innovative mask packaging goes to Maskingdom. They successfully and creatively integrates the elements from aboriginal tribes to their cosmetics masks. Even the box is a must-keep item. Look at the bird at the back! That is the box that holds all the sheet masks!

NARUKO

Naruko, founded by Niuer, the godfather of Taiwanese beauty industry is definitely not a stranger for us especially when he was just here in Malaysia last week. You may find all Naruko products at Watsons stores.

NEOGENCE

Another brand found at SaSa outlets. I did not pay much attention to this brand as they rarely do any promo with the beauty bloggers here hence the lack of publicity. Through this networking event, I finally able to find out about them and their other products beside this hydrating range. They are a brand that combines dermatology and bio-tech.

O’RIGHT

I was told O’Right is available here in Malaysia but I have not heard of them before. In a nutshell, they are known to be an environmental-friendly haircare products.

PSK

The only and only makeup brand at the networking event and I have not heard of PSK before this. PSK is known for their Pearl Cream, which has been sold more than 1,000 times the height of Taipei 101 building and their LED light lip gloss. I had the priviledge to bring home some PSK makeup and skincare to try. All are their best-seller products! Excited!

YUAN

Yuan is of course available in Malaysia. You can find them at some of the big departmental store especially at Isetan KLCC. Among 10 brand presentation that morning, Yuan was the last and the most interesting one. Love their video! Yuan is famous for its excellent herbal application, their handmade soap and their commitment towards the nature and environment as well as towards their employees.

I rarely join beauty workshop especially hands-on workshop. It is also rarely that a brand will conduct a workshop on educating us on sun damage and the importance to protect our skin properly. I am very much into anything related to sun protection and coincidentally Murad’s “See Your Sun Damage” Workshop is not a hands-on workshop so that is just perfect for me

What is sun damage? Sun damage occurs when your skin is over-exposed to the sun. This often happens to those who like or spent a lot of times under the sun. It can be that you are into sun tanning, constantly working under the sun or simply having a skin type that are easily sun burnt. A normal sun damage will only appear as a skin flaw but a serious sun damage can lead to skin cancer. Through Murad’s workshop, I get to learnt about the skin, the importance of sun protection, and a proper application of sun protection product.

I first met Ms. Chion Wong, Education Manager of Murad Malaysia during the launch of Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 and let me tell you she always give the most info-full and funny presentation. I was happy to see Ms. Chion again at the workshop

Something that you and I might not know about sun damage. Sun damages are accumulative. It may not be visible on the skin immediately until many years later. Then you will start to see signs of sun damage appearing on the skin. What I remember from a skin analysis I did many years ago was that our skin consists of many layers and pigmentation does not only appear on the surface but also deep inside all the layers. Slowly, bit by bit all the pigmentations or dark spots will emerge to the surface from deep inside the skin. Scary!

This is a video that has gone viral a few months ago on the importance of applying sun protection AND applying it the correct way. I am pretty sure most of us apply our sun protection in a hurry and not thoroughly, missing out a few areas including the ears and neck. I am one of the guilty one

It was also our lucky day as Murad Malaysia just brought in a new device from Murad U.S. to check the skin under a UV camera. A similar machine to the one you have seen from the video above. And one of the participant volunteered to go for the test by applying sun protection on half of the face and half was left as it is.

So the black half of the face seen below was applied with sun protection. If you did not apply thoroughly, you will see empty spots. I also learnt that the correct amount of sun protection to use is a teaspoon. That’s not too bad. I used a big dollop on each side of my face on daily basis

Two weeks ago, By Terry Malaysia held a make-up workshop just for a few of us bloggers over at KENS Bangsar Shopping Center where I met up with By Terry International Makeup Artist & Trainer, Sophie Kilian for the first time. Sophie, who flew in from France was present to introduce to us the brand, By Terry as a whole and its wide range of skin care and makeup products as well as to do a simple yet gorgeous makeup application demonstration with just five products.

This will be a picture heavy post so I will do less talking and let the picture speak for itself.

Give Me 5

Although there were a wide varieties of makeup products available, By Terry founder Terry de Gunzberg came up with Give Me 5 – the magic flawless makeup technique with 5 products, 5 steps, 5 minutes that will change your beauty routine.

Sophie start by removing model’s existing makeup by using PURETE DE ROSE Refreshing Cleansing Gel (RM189 / 125ml). That’s Kelly of Sunshine Kelly by the way

Follow by a face moisturizer, CREME DE ROSE Nutri-Lift Comfort Cream (RM359 / 30ml) on all over the face.

As we are indeed living in a hot, humid country, Sophie then prep Kelly’s skin with a face primer – Cellularose Brightening CC Lumi-Serum (RM329 / 30ml).

Step 1 (Unify the skin) – LIGHT-EXPERT Perfecting Foundation Brush (RM239 / 17.5ml)

This genious one-click foundation stick comes with a brush applicator for a flawless application. It is said to instantly plump up the skin, smoothes fine lines and wrinkles as well as to diminishes imperfections and erases signs of fatigue.

If you don’t feel like using the built-in brush applicator, you can always dispense some product out on the back of your hand and use a foundation brush to apply onto the face.

Step 2 (Embellish the lips) – BAUME DE ROSE (RM219 / 10ml)

This is one brilliant tip to prep the lips for lipstick, which I practise personally on every day makeup routine. Sophie apply BAUME DE ROSE, which is a lipid-replenishing, multi-protecting and multi-regenerating lip treatment onto the lips before moving on with the rest of the makeup. You must be wondering why put on lip balm at the beginning, not the end. This is because the lips will be properly moisturized by the time you finish the face makeup therefore lipstick will goes on smoothly and beautifully. Trust me, this is one tip that you should do every day before makeup.

Step 3 (Correcting) – TOUCH-EXPERT ADVANCED Multi-Corrective Concealer Brush (RM170 / 2.5ml)

One interesting fact I learnt is that Terry de Gunzberg used to work in YSL as Creative Director and she was the one who invented the iconic Touche Éclat. Touche Éclat is more of an under eye brightener than a concealer and TOUCH-EXPERT ADVANCED Multi-Corrective Concealer Brush is a corrector and concealer in one. This product can be used to correct the dark circles on the under eye, cover blemishes, wrinkles and shadow. As a result, eye will look more fresher without the dark circle thus erasing signs of tiredness.

This step is not crucial for those who are with dry skin or for those who live in a colder country but for us here in Malaysia, setting the makeup with a translucent powder is important. Sophie uses Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder (RM219 / 10g) to set the concealer on the under eye and lightly dust all over the face. I personally don’t like the stickiness from the foundation so this step although is not a must-do but it is a must-have for me.

Kelly requested for a straight eye brow. Sophie uses CRAYON SOURCILS TERRYBLY Eyebrow Pencil Definer to shape and fill in the brow.

Step 4 (Structure) – HYALURONIC BLUSH Hydra-Veil Print Flush (RM165 / 15ml)

For this step, Sophie recommended to use CELLULAROSE BLUSH GLACE Hydra-Radiance Aqua Blush, which is a liquid blush in a pot that gives a dewy finishing. Kelly prefer a matte finishing so HYALURONIC BLUSH Hydra-Veil Print Flush it is! This blush on the other hand is a liquid blush in a tube that dries down matte.

Remember the BAUME DE ROSE lip balm that was applied earlier? Blot off the access and apply any lipstick or lip gloss on the lips. By now you will feel that the lips are moist and lipstick goes on without settling into chapped lips.

Step 5 (Intensify) – MASCARA TERRYBLY Growth Booster Mascara (RM170 / 3.5g)

This has got to be my favourite product of all. This mascara contain lash serum that are enriched with Lumicoat® Care Technology for more volume, length and thickness. It is a growth booster mascara which visibly promote growth and volume on the lashes day after day. It comes in a few colors but the colors are dark pigmented so you don’t have to worry if the color on your lashes will be too light and obvious.

Now, the above Give Me 5 sequence is based on our skin type, weather and need. Here’s a video on how you can do it the other way.
