There are two things I love about the new Diptyque Rosa Mundi Collection. First, the scent itself and secondly, the Domino paper of figurative motifs and geometric patters. I fell in love with the paper as soon as I step into the Diptyque store . Let’s walk through the meeting between Diptyque and Antoinette Poisson.

The Story of Domino Papers and Antoinette Poisson

Domino paper are given a breath of new life by three young people of a woman and two men with the same passion for craft, restoration of wallpapers and wall decorations. Diptyque collaborated with the trio for a Valentine’s Day Collection, with the challenge of illustrating a fragrance – Rosa Mundi rose and transpose it to paper. To revive this craft, which reached its peak in the 18th century and then disappeared during the first half of the following century, the trio named it À Paris chez Antoinette Poisson, which is inspired by a patron of the arts, the Marquise de Pompadour, born Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson.

Domino paper are used as book covers, box covers and as wall papers. They are block-printed and colored by stencil or hand and it comes in two types of decorations – figurative motifs and geometric patterns. These two styles are combined in the creation of two exclusive designs by Antoinette Poisson for Diptyque.

Rosa Mundi Candles (RM175 / 70g, RM295 / 190g) | Rosa Mundi Scented Oval (RM255)

In this collection, there are two formats of Rosa Mundi candles and it is beautifully adorned with floral motif of green and pink as the main colors. These colors expreses romantic and invigorating of the fragrance. The heart note is made out of two most beautiful roses available in the perfumery – the Damask Rose, the rose of Damascus and the Centifolia or Provence “May Rose” rose. It is beautiful and rich in their aromas.
The top note on the other hand has the hint of Blackcurrent and Bergamot, which brings freshness while Fruity Lychee is added to enhance the petals. Geranium in it intensifies the naturalness.
And how can we forget the glass. The absolutely beautiful glass decorated with domino paper, that is made using long fibres paper for the candle purpose. When the candle burns, it illuminated by the light of the flame.

To complete the collection, a perfumed disc of wax and porcelain, prettily protected by a box-drawer with two of the motifs. It fragrance and decorate the wardrobe all together.

L’Eau Dominotée Mutli-Use Fragrance (RM399 / 200ml)

Similar to Diptyque’s Vinaigre de Toilette and just like the fragrance, it is created with multiple uses. It functions as a perfume, as fabric fresher or sprayed into the air. It acts as a bridge between personal fragrances and that of the home. The scent has the natural rose grace, the spiciness of the garden and almost undetectable trace of patchouli. The latter has the ability to fix fragrances to textiles, thus the hold and endurance.

Eau Rose Solid Perfume (RM229)

I own a similar solid perfume as the Eau Rose and coincidentally, it is also rose scented and it is undoubtedly my favourite perfume of all. Eau Rose Solid Perfume is new and it is now a Diptyque permanent collection. Rejoice!
Solid perfume has a history of four thousand years. It was very much in vogue back in the 1920s. The creation of solid perfume was inspired by a traditional perfumery methods – the flowers plunged into a fatty substance, which naturally releases its fragrance. It is a simple process by excessively long and fresh flowers are required to be constantly renewed.
This balmy solid perfume works by placing on the skin at a few sensitive points to disburse the fragrance out such as on the neck and wrist, on the pulse area. Believe it or not, the pulse will help to enhance the fragrance.
Eau Rose Solid Perfume is made using two incomparable roses – Centifolia and Damask Rose, which the scent become sumptuous and sensual with the blend of Lychee, Honey and Cedar.
This cute little thing are packed in a black engraved metal box, which resembles the emblematic Diptyque oval.

I could not get my heads around this scent but it is sure one of the most heavier scent candle among the three. This spicy, incense vanilla scent balance out the other two candles, which are more Christmasy.

A Christmas cookie scented candle with warm gingerbread notes, mixed with sweet honey. Honestly some people cannot stand the cookie scent as it is usually slightly more heavier scented but I kind of like it. The whole house smells like as if I was baking haha.

Green – LE ROI SAPIN (The festive fir tree) – RM175/70g | RM295/190g

A all-crowd favourite scent is of course Christmas tree scent that brings you one step close to the holiday. Nothing beats the fresh, pine leaves scent. It is fresh, incredibly calming, just like you were out in the woods searching for the perfect Christmas tree to bring home.
