I have been enjoying my Laura Mercier Joie de Vivre products so much so that I have totally forgotten to tell you about it . I was thinking to review the lipstick first but suddenly yesterday I wanted to talk about the Colour Powder For Cheeks & Eyes. Then, as I was typing my review away, I decided to lump both products into one lol. Like a friend said – redirect the heart. And I redirected twice!

This beautiful Laura Mercier parcel arrived unexpectedly from KENS Apothecary. I’m always grateful to them for letting me try their products without any commitment. Joie de Vivre is Laura Mercier’s Spring 2017 color collection. The entire collection consists of one Colour Powder For Cheeks & Eyes, three Velour Lovers Lip Colour, three Lip Pencil, one Tightlight Cake Eyeliner, and one Extra Lash Sculpting Mascara. Joie de Vivre makeup collection evolves around the idea of bringing the natural color in your skin for a healthy and youthful glow.

Joie de Vivre Colour Powder For Cheeks & Eyes in Windflush

Joie de Vivre Colour Powder For Cheeks & Eyes is a multi-purpose baked powder that is said to be universally flattering. This, I find it to be true. Well, that was not what I think at first try but after using it for several times, I finally get it to work with my typical makeup do. At first glance, it looked like a baked bronzer. I would be jumping up and down if it was. However I am not disappointed at all. The warmth of Windflush, the shade for the Joie de Vivre collection is absolutely beautiful. I have to be careful with the contouring I do if I want to use this blush for the day. That is because the shade on my skin is close to bronzer. So if I am heavy handed with my bronzer as contour and then apply this as a blush, I may look like I have a big blob across my cheek. I like that I can use the warmth of Windflush to top up on my contour. It goes on the skin looking a little peachy but warm. I love this kind of shade especially as crease shade. Yes, I do use it as eyeshadow too. The powder is very light-weight so a heavy swirl of the brush is needed. I don’t see a lot of fallout, which is good as the powder is really baked.

The packaging of Joie de Vivre are kept simple and it has cute writing on it. The shiny surface do leave fingerprints all over it. You know how crazy I go when I see fingerprints but I always clean up all my makeup after each use so in the end it doesn’t bother me

This is how Joie de Vivre Colour Powder For Cheeks & Eyes in Windflush shade looks like on me. I didn’t do a hand swatch because it doesn’t show up on the back of my hand. As I said, the powder is very light-weight. You have to really get your brush on the pan to pick up more products. I like how the payoff looks natural as a blush. Almost blended in by itself with my contour shade.

I didn’t see this on KENS Apothecary website now. It may be sold out but if you are interested, do check it out at their stores to see if they still have it.

Joie de Vivre Velour Lovers Lip Colour (RM129 / 3.6g)

I kept both of the Joie de Vivre Velour Lovers Lip Colour for the longest time ever because I thought they are some creamy or glossy lipstick and if you know me well enough, you will know that I like matte lipstick. Until one day I had an itch to open a new lipstick to use and I had been thinking about these lipstick so I took the shade Joy to use. OH MY GOD. I literally had a shock of my life as these goes on matte! It’s kinda hard to get the color on my lips so I took the box to read. Duh Fiona!

It turns out these Velour Lovers Lip Colour are matte metallic lipstick! I had a lot of matte lipstick but not metallic. So I was kinda excited. As you know, metallic lip product is kinda in the trend now. It turns out Laura Mercier is up to the trend too.

These lipsticks are like a peekaboo. It looked dry from the bullet itself, it goes on the lip hard and dry thanks to the metallic in it but it is not drying at all. Like seriously not even a bit drying. I like that I don’t feel any lip product on my lips. It lasts on me the entire day, all through food and drinks. No touch up needed at all as the lipstick doesn’t wears off from the lips entirely. Whenever I had the shade Joy on me, everyone will ask me what lipstick I’m using. It’s really flattering.

It has a buildable pigmentation. When you apply a few times, it become a full on full coverage lipstick. I read from Laura Mercier website that this lipstick has mattifying powders with moisturizing mango butter combination that enables a matte finish that doesn’t dry the lips. My favourite colour? Joy of course! It has a purplish shade to it and you know I like purple

I find that both shade Joy and Happy are almost similar. I hardly could tell them apart on the lips! But the swatches are clear. Joy has pink tone, while Happy is a straight on red.

You guys know, the Mamonde High Cover Liquid Cushion is my all time favourite cushion foundation. No other cushion beat that. Then Mamonde sent me the entire set of the NEW Brightening Cover Cushion that consists of two variants – Brightening Cover Powder Cushion and Brightening Cover Watery Cushion. So in this new cushion you will get to choose either a dewy finish or a velvet matte finish. Naturally, I’d lean more towards a matte finishing so this review will be based on the Brightening Cover Powder Cushion . I have high hope on this one!

Brightening Cover Cushion has 4 main features but since there are 2 variants, the features varies but still in the same category. However both of the variants shared the same feature and that is they have Mamonde’s special Brightening Cover™ Complex in it. It is said to enable a skin tone-up created that makes the skin looking “brilliant” while covering imperfections through its phospholipid coating powder in it that is similar to the skin.

Unlike the High Cover Liquid Cushion which has a net and pump feature, this New Brightening Cover Cushion is a typical cushion foundation that you seen or own. It has a sponge which soaked up all the foundation, just like every other cushion. What’s different between the Powder and Watery variant is that they both had different sponge. The Powder cushion has the Even Coverage Sponge™, while the Watery cushion has the Water Pump Sponge™. One promises an even, light coverage with peach flower powder while one promises an effective discharge of product that deeply moisturize and with high coverage.

Now get this, even the puffs are also different! I have not use the Watery cushion so I can’t tell the different. But I can tell you that the Cover Fit Puff from the Powder Cushion is kinda similar to other cushion of its competitor.

The Mamonde Brightening Cover Powder Cushion is not as high coverage as I like it to be. I always assume the word “powder” or velvet matte has more coverage than the Watery one. Turns out I was wrong. It only gives a very light coverage and doesn’t covers up acne marks. Having said that, it does a good job in evening out the uneven skin tone. If you need to conceal any blemishes, I would suggest to use a concealer thereafter.

It also has a tacky, sticky finishing. Although Mamonde said that there is no need to set it with a powder, I still do apply a layer of finishing powder just to get rid of the stickiness but even though so, it is still tacky after applying powder.

Overall, it has 5 shades in the Brightening Cover Cushion range and available in either pink base or yellow base. I am using shade No.21N Medium Beige and it is unfortunately too light on me. After I apply powder, my face become even more fairer! Whenever I have this cushion foundation on me, my face and body are in two different shade LOL. No.23N Natural Beige would suit me much better.

I don’t know how I feel about this cushion still despite using it everyday for the past few weeks. It’s like love and hate kinda relationship. First, the finishing is tacky and I’m not a fan. That was far less the issue for me than the fact that my makeup breaks up after a few hours. I wouldn’t say the Brightening Cover Powder Cushion offers a velvet matte finishing as it is definitely looking dewy. Semi-matte, maybe? And my face do get oily after 2 hours or so. If I ignore that and continue my day, my makeup starts to break up and look all patchy. I have been trying so many times to rectify the issue by trying out different primers and different powders and nothing stop the breaking up issue. Now if I know I’d be out the whole day, I wouldn’t dare to have this cushion foundation on me. But if I’m out for a short while say 2-3 hours, I can live with it

This is how Mamonde Brightening Cover Powder Cushion in shade No.21N Medium Beige looks like on me. I have tone down with lots of bronzer so that the shade matches my body haha!

Ahhh the most raved Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer that everyone is eyeballing. This would be the easiest product review for me as I’ve already been using it for a few months before it’s available here in Malaysia AND I LOVE IT. Oppsss! I shouldn’t have jumped to the end of the review at the beginning huh . A few months ago, I spilled the beans on Instagram Stories that Physicians Formula Malaysia would be bringing in the Butter Bronzer but as a limited edition release. If you missed several announcement on that and still asking me about Butter Bronzer, hmmm, it means you are not stalking me close enough . And the official announce was also made on Physicians Formula Malaysia Instagram on 16th August. Just bear in mind that this will be a limited edition release an only available for a limited time only while the stock lasts, so don’t procrastinate for too long.

The full name of this is Butter Bronzer Murumuru Butter Bronzer. I know, weird that they repeated Butter Bronzer twice. I’m just going to call it Butter Bronzer for short. This bronzer is infused with Murumuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Tucuma Butter from the Amazon for that Brazilian glow. This may be a bit confusing to some – glow in a bronzer. No, you will not look all shimmery because this is a matte bronzer. So don’t worry.

Butter Bronzer is available in two shades – Light Bronzer and Bronzer. Light Bronzer would be too light and muddy for me based on swatches available online. So I go with Bronzer shade, which turned out to be just nice on me with build-able coverage. One of the reason why everyone is raving about this bronzer is the scent. It is said to have a pina colada scent. I don’t detect any coconut scent but to me it smells like beach holiday and I think many people agree with me on that .

Every Physicians Formula product comes with a brush or applicator. So is this Butter Bronzer, except that you don’t exactly get a brush but a sponge applicator some sort. I still have yet to use the applicator so I can’t comment on it because I love my bronzer line to be precise and diffused at the same time.

Butter Bronzer is said to be an ultra-rich bronzer that are creamy and soft. You must be wondering how it is a powder product creamy, eh? Well, the texture is said to mimic a powder and cream bronzer in one. The powder consistency feels like a velvety soft powder that goes on the skin beautifully without caking up. It also blends effortlessly and beautifully on the skin. This bronzer has a soft shade payoff despite using the darkest shade among the two shades available. That is also how I like my bronzer to be. Soft but build-able. I usually put on a soft first layer and build up to the shade I want. It is really not a super pigmented into-your-face kind of bronzer but once you build it up, it is absolutely beautiful! That is why the beauty community is still going crazy over this bronzer even after a year of launching it.

I am on the Western makeup trend so I like my face shape to look like they have dimension instead of the Korean or Japanese makeup style with a slap of white into your face kinda look. Nothing wrong with it, just a personal preference. The funny thing is, when I simply chisel up my face dimension, it doesn’t appear on the photo but if I build it up, it is wonderful! This is the Western makeup trend so please take my face shot comparison with a pinch of salt. You may not like it but I like it

I don’t use any other “contour” product to contour, just this Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. The brush I like to use with bronzer is the Real Techniques Cheek Brush from the Nic’s Pick set. It has a fluffy but tapered brush that I can easily do a contour line first before diffusing out with the same brush. But I go through phases with bronzer brush LOL. As of now, this is it.

The million dollar question is, should you get this Butter Bronzer. HELL YES! Run to it, don’t walk as it may just run out of stock. Remember, RUN!

The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips duo is not a stranger to most of you. I didn’t attend the blogger event but I was given this iconic duo when I went over to Physicians Formula Malaysia office for a meeting on #IWillBeOkay Beauty Bag. Always love Physicians Formula team. They are always ever so kind to me. Since then, I have been using the Shimmer Strips since last year and I’ve been loving them! They are so well-loved / beat-up by now which shows how much I adore them.

Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette For Face & Eyes (RM69.85)

A lot of people have no idea how to use the Shimmer Strips or rather no idea what it is for. Hmmm I have to note that this product is kinda confusing but if you are a beauty enthusiasts like me, this wouldn’t be a concern at all. Makeup products are quite diversify. You can literally use anything on any part of the face. Now, as the mouthful name suggests, this is a all-in-1 palette for the face and eyes. As I have another palette for the eyes, I am using this specifically for the face. Also because that’s what I heard all the rave about from other people when used on the face.

Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette For Face & Eyes has 12 shimmery nude brick shades for a recreation of an all-over nude glow, contour, to accentuate cheeks, and to enhance the eyes. It’s confusing as I said earlier for most people because it comes in a squares bricks and usually that confuses people for some reason. Most people tend to overthink – which shade for which area, what shade for what etc. You will know after a few use the lighter rows are to be applied on which part of the face and also the darker row. I don’t stress myself with square by square. I’d go crazy! Instead I use my brush to glide over the top two rows a few times as highlighter and the bottom two rows for a shimmery bronzer when needed. But to be frank most of the time I only use the top two rows

Besides the pretty lace-print box design, which you know I LOVE LACE for the god of my life lol, a mirror, face brush and an applicator are also included and hidden at the back compartment. Usually I don’t say anything on the brush as I don’t normally use them but this face brush are thick, soft and well-made. Would be so perfect in picking up those shimmer powder and glide over the top of the cheek for a highlighted cheekbone

Haha this photo of me was taken back in November 2016 where I took the Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette For Face & Eyes out and applied it for the first time. First impression captured on the camera as I set it with timer and it went off with my shock face. Was supposed to capture picture of me applying but instead it captured my super shock face.

This is honestly, THE BEST, the most highlighted highlighter I have ever own and used. The rave from other Youtubers and bloggers are true. It is the most underrated, most affordable and best highlighter in the market. I highly recommend it too.

Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner (RM63.50)

I contemplated a bit with this Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner palette. I should have not listen to my other friends about how inconvenient this palette is because this is the most versatile and convenient palette to have or use IMHO. Like I said, people tend to get overwhelmed or confuse when they see stripes of shades lol.

Compared to the Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette For Face & Eyes, this one has real lace cloth wrap on the packaging. Major love! Most people get intimidated with shimmer eyeshadow. But then again, shimmers are in trend so this is perfect. I wouldn’t say this palette is shimmery. It does look like it’s packed on with lots of shimmers but nope. To me it gives the most beautiful satin-y finish. Super shimmery? Not at all! Physicians Formula said this palette can be used wet or dry. I have yet to use this wet so no comment about it. However I can already imagine how this would be when it’s used wet. That’s called the “foiling” method, where you turn any shimmery shade into a metallic shiny finishing.

How I like to use this Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner palette is actually very simple. I like to take an eyeshadow brush, run it all over the entire palette several time and apply onto the entire lid. When used with the right brush, it gives the crease a natural crease shade. I was amazed and still amazed with this palette. On certain days I would only swipe over the lightest five shades from the right for a lighter highlighted shade. Can this palette be used as highlighter? Why not?

So the next time you feel intimidated with the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Duo, don’t. There’s nothing to be worry about. Both are an absolutely beautiful and versatile palette to own. These two deserves more love and rave.
