I love a good ol’ matte lipstick. It is the only thing I wear on my lip these days. Sometimes a full-on matte lipstick can be drying and accentuating all the cracks and wrinkles on the lips. Yes they can be long lasting but it will starts to get uncomfortable as the hour went by.

Jumping on the matte lipstick bandwagon is none other than Mary Kay. They recently came out with Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick that comes with a somewhat gel-like lip cushioning formula. All together there are eight shades to choose from – Bashful You, Rich Truffle, Mauve Moment, Powerful Pink, Always Apricot, Poppy Please, Crushed Berry, and Midnight Red. I am going to show you four out of the eight shades. So you will get to see how these four completely different shade family fares on my darker lip tone. I have with me Bashful You, Always Apricot, Poppy Please, and Crushed Berry.

Sorry that my lipsticks looked a bit beat up lol. That is because I have been using these lipstick like crazy for the past few weeks. While my camera was still in the service centre, I took the time to really try these lipstick out. They may looked beat up but hey, that means I like it so much so that I have been wearing them often

Usually a gel lipstick is not opaque but not this one. Mary Kay’s Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick offers a full coverage and it utilizes gel microsphere technology to maintain its rich, opaque, stay-true colour and long-lasting. What’s interesting with these lipstick is that it is formulated to give a soft-focus effect. Meaning these lipstick has optical diffusers that works by scattering light and blurs away minor lip imperfection. Hah! Now, that is something I am looking forward to.

All four shades swatched BEAUTIFULLY. Right off the bat I know I will like Always Apricot and Crushed Berry. I seems to be leaning more to a pink base shade when it comes to my lipstick . After trying each lipstick out, day by day, I actually like them all. The shade that really surprises me the most is the most nude shade – Bashful You. It seems so pale from the lipstick bullet but surprisingly it turns out to be THE PERFECT NUDE shade I have ever tried! On me it has a hint of peachy brown which almost looks like a peachy pink. It does not matter because I finally found a nude shade that I can pull off

Here comes the most random photo of all. This is what happen when a spectator was by my side and he asked “why do girls make funny faces when they apply lipstick”. Just as I was bursting into laughter, the camera timer set earlier went off. Guys, this is NOT what you ask a girl when she’s applying lipstick, okay? Not cool. Not cool at all. Hehe! Funniest shot ever.

Anyway, back to Mary Kay Gel Semi-Matte Lipstick. The lipstick is a semi-matte lipstick therefore it does not dries down to a complete matte after a minute or two. It remains a tad bit creamy (not glossy) throughout the day. However after going through a whole meal, I notice that the lipstick wears off and turns to more matte. The colour stays put thanks to its Advanced “Cushion Matrix Technology”. This fancy schmancy technology utilizes something called ultrafine silica microsphere to embed and retain the lipstick colour on the surface of the lip. That explains why I still get the tint on my lips even after the lipstick wears off a bit. The moisturizing properties that keeps the lip supple and moist are mainly from Sunflower Oil and Jojoba Esters.

Below is all four shade lip swatches. Bashful You looked shinier because it is the first shade I tried on and I had lip balm on earlier when I do my makeup. If you do not prep your lip with lip balm like I always do everyday, the shade will be more matte

Mary Kay Dream Beautiful Contest 2016

Every year I shared about Mary Kay Dream Beautiful Contest and for 2016, the entry submission are now opened. Dream Beautiful Contest has entered its fourth year. Being one of the most glamorous beauty contest, Dream Beautiful is a regional makeover competition among Asia Pacific region in the celebration of the making of Asia’s next modeling star and makeup artist talent.

Dream Beautiful Contest 2016 is targeted to garner thousands of pairs from nine countries in the Asia Pacific. I’m a fragrance junkie. If you ask me which is my favourite I can look at you for 10 minutes straight, trying to give you an answer because I happened to be someone who like all fragrance I own to date. Latest fragrance in my collection is by Mary Kay. One look at the name and description, one will not think this scent suits me. Surprisingly it did!

Mary Kay Upbeat™ For Her Eau de Toilette is described as a flirty (yes flirty), festival-inspired scent created to capture that one feeling. The name Upbeat sounds young, carefree and definitely for someone who’s into an active lifestyle. Upbeat celebrates people’s love for music. You know how musicians are creatively weird in a way? When all musicians gathers for the same purpose and for the love of music, it’s the spirit that Mary Kay created. Hehe! Creatively weird. Did I just said that out loud?

When I first unbox the fragrance, I texted my friend and tell her that the bottle is so cute. It reminds of the Mustang jeans era. And I live in Mustang jeans era previously.

Now. Upbeat™ EDT is a fruity and woody scent. I’m someone who is not into fruity sweet scent but somehow my nose cannot detect the fruity note. All I could smell is floral. This new fragrance has a scent of Chypre Fruity (Fruity and Woody). That explains why it’s not sweet. It’s slightly musky in a way, which again my nose can’t detect LOL. Something must be wrong with my nose! For an EDT, the fragrance is a tad bit strong as soon as you mist it on. It opens up to a citrus fresh top notes faceted by the bright floral as the heart note. I absolutely like how the scent tones down to a soothing floral scent. The downside? The scent does not last long. Being an EDT, I totally understand that.

Here’s the scent description for your reading pleasure. Now excuse me while I go to one corner and recalculate my scent thoughts and why I only smell the floral LOL.

Opening Notes
This unique fragrance opens with a captivating burst of red berries, sweet nectarine and sparkling apple. The delicious surge creates a boost of energy and a sense of excitement to last through the festival experience.

The Backbeat
Jasmine rose, muguet and wild honeysuckle add a sweet flirty nuance to this energetic fragrance. It exudes femininity, sensuality and the spirit of moving to the beat.

The Finish
Patchouli, skin musk, amber and agarwood unite to create the perfect mood for partying into the night.

Fragrance is a personal thing. It may smells good on me and it may not for you. So far in my life I have only encounter just one perfume that goes on so beautifully on me but later turns to a pee scent as the middle note take place LOL. I am not joking. It was not a pleasant experience none the less. I thought I got a bad batch or something. Bought myself a new fresh bottle and it still turns like a pee scent on me.

Fragrance is also something intriguing to me. It goes on smelling like something and tones down smelling like another thing. It’s weird and amazing at the same time. Linda Song, the creator of Upbeat™ for Her Eau de Toilette created this scent based on a vision of a flirty, fun-seeking, energetic girl. The idea is to create a fragrance similar to the evolution of a song – starting with a captivating, sparkling introduction that builds into a chorus, revealing a deeper soul and vibe to the creation.

To further elongate my 5-dimension luminosity, I switched up to Mary Kay MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System quite recently. To be quite honest, it took me some time to get used to this new range. Slowly but surely, I picked up the pace and started to understand why fellow blogger friends has been loving it. The whole MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System was designed for Asian skin to address a whole new level of luminosity benefits including translucency, brightness, purity, even-looking tone, and hydration.

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Foaming Cleanser (RM 129 / 100ml)

The Foaming Cleanser surprises me the most. It does not contain any fragrance scent and to one extend it smells like watermelon (to me). The MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Foaming Cleanser itself are very creamy and foams up pretty well. I like that it creates a creamy foam, which is hydrating on the skin despite being a brightening cleanser. What I like the most is when I used it in the morning. My skin never look so soft and bright with any other cleanser. It cleans well without the squeakily dry feeling.

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Freshener (RM 129 / 100ml)

It’s toner on the other hand is known as Freshener. They are basically the same, just named differently . With this toner, I like to soak up a whole cotton pad. I find that it is very watery and not as sticky as other toner, which I LOVE. I hate toner that gives me that heavy, sticky feeling. Not with this MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Freshener. Which is why I like a whole wet cotton pad for all over the face as I like my skin to be slightly damp before applying serum. It does freshen up the skin as it said, does not have any alcohol scent to it (brownie points for this) and gentle enough for day and night use.

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Ultimate Serum (RM 350 / 30ml)

Whitening or brightening products are known to be drying to the skin except that Mary Kay MelaCEP Plus+ Luminous System has been specifically developed to include products such as Ultimate Serum to conditions skin without drying it out and Ultimate Cream that provides all-day moisturization when used day and night.

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Ultimate Serum contains key ingredients such as Hexylresorcinol — shown to target glutathione (vital to the skin’s purification process) and the accumulation of pigment on the skin’s surface. Many of us are not aware that as we gets older, our body’s production of glutathione starts to decrease. Stress and environmental pollutants can also deplete its levels. In addition, glutathione can impact melanocytes, which are responsible for melanin that can appear on the skin. Therefore, Mary Kay includes another key ingredient in the serum – Maritime pine and white birch extracts to target melanin.

This serum I like the most. It is very serum-y and absorbed fast into the skin. One pump actually does not dispense a lot of product so for me I like to use at least two pumps per usage for all over the face and neck. Same as every other products within the MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System range, it does not contain any artificial fragrance. As you know, brightening products can be very fragrant. So do expect this to not smell as fragrant as others but neutral.

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Ultimate Cream (RM 180 / 30ml)

The Ultimate Cream on the other hand was not my favourite at first because I was not sure if this will goes well with my makeup in the day. It turns out all was good! Mary Kay designed this cream to provide a 24-hours hydration when used day and night. What I do like about this cream is that no matter how much I apply, it does not feel sticky or heavy. And you know I can go very heavy handed with my cream. The texture kinda feels like gel-cream. It has quickly become one of my favourite as I find this MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Ultimate Cream works efficiently when paired with Ultimate Serum. All the acne scars from previous breakout before this review were all gone!

MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Mask (RM 169/ 85 ml)

The mask in the range is everyone’s favourite. It is one of mine too as I like cream mask compared to sheet mask. Usually cream mask is harder to rinse off and MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System Mask is the only mask I have used that rinses off in no time. After rinsing, you would see a significantly brighter and softer skin. It does not leave my skin dry and tight. Instead it feels like any other hydrating cream mask I used before.

There will be no Before and After photo this time around because I just got off another whitening skincare and you may not see any major wow if I do put a comparison photo. After all, both is from within the same skin targeting range. What this MelaCEP Plus+™ Luminous System does for me is to further brighten my skin’s luminosity from within. It works. And more. When I stopped the other whitening skincare range, I still have some acne marks on my jawline, chin and upper lip. Now those marks are lighten.
