Sulwhasoo has only been in Malaysia for a few years but the fact is this prestigious Korean beauty brand has 50 years of ginseng research under their belt! Wow.

Back in August, I was invited over to Sulwhasoo’s Pavilion Centre Court roadshow event for the introduction of the two brand new products as well as to see myself the history of Sulwhasoo’s 50 years of ginseng research, as well as to go upclose and personal on the signature Poje Optimizing Process™.

Poje Optimizing Process™ is a method Sulwhasoo used to process herbal medicinal plants in various methods to maximize the efficacies of the ingredients. It is a process that embodies tradition dedication, which was used up until this day to process all the key ingredients.

Honeyed Process™

Maturing of ingredients with all-natural honey to harmonize efficacies. Solomon’s seal and white lily from the JAUM Balancing Complex™ go through this process

Salted Process™

First aged in salt, and then roasted on a fire to lower toxic levels in ingredients and help creating clear skin tone. Ingredients of skin brightening products, such as the mulberry root go through this process.

Steamed Process™

Ingredients steamed and sundried. A crucial process for ginseng ingredients. Ginseng become processed to red ginseng with more various concentrated Saponins.

Chui-Song-Jung Method

Raw ingredients ground into powder, repeated boiled in water, then sundried. The beneficial properties of red pine requires these steps for proper extraction.

Alcohol Steamed Process™

Ingredients aged in alcohol then steamed to activate their beneficial components, Jeongyangdan, the special formula for men’s skincare requires this process.

Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX (Original and Light – RM795/60ml)

The Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX is not a stranger. It is Sulwhasoo’s signature product based on 50 years of ginseng research. It is structured with two different layers – inner layer takes care of the skin with a comfortable fit, while outer layer embraces the skin tightly to allow the formula penetrating into the skin effectively. This dual structure is also said to keep the formula from getting onto the fingers.

Sulwhasoo as everyone know is a well-known Korean skincare brand. Now the brand takes K-Beauty up a notch with the launch of its K-Beauty Makeup Collection. Korean beauty trend has always been adopting that dewy glow and natural radiance from within. The same concept are instilled in its makeup collection for a no makeup makeup look. However Korean version of no makeup makeup look is different from the US. Sulwhasoo are gravitating more to natural dewy flawless skin with a tinge of radiant colour.

I am not going to tease you further but instead I am going to show you the MOST exciting item from the collection that makes all of us goes ooohhh and ahhhhsss.

Radiance Blusher (RM210, available in 2 colours)

What caught everyone’s attention at the media preview was none other than the multi-coloured Radiance Blusher. It is so pretty that I can’t take it. Trust me when I say you will have a hard time choosing just one shade that you like because both shades are absolutely gorgeous. I am not into peachy coral shade and yet I find No. 2 Coral Harmony is so pretty!

There are three shades all together in a pan. A medium shade which acts as the main blusher to give radiance, a darker bits  on the center to control the shade intensity, and lastly a light pink shade at the corner for highlighting. You can use all three shades together with a swirl of a brush or use separately. For example by using the link pink as highlighter.

Radiance Blusher uses a powder called Bloominous Pearl Powder which works by reflecting a tint of red and light to the skin. And of course, with the price you pay you do get a cute fluffy brush made from half goat hair and half synthetic fiber.

Perfecting Cushion (RM200, available in 6 shades) & Perfecting Cushion Brightening (RM210, available in 7 shades)

Perfecting Cushion was launched quite some time ago and now it comes with additional shades, making it a total of six shades catering to different skin tone. Just like other cushion foundation, this one comes with SPF as well but in a high SPF50 PA+++ and with multiple skincare benefits. The highest I’ve seen? I would not know as I do not use cushion BB or foundation . It’s skincare benefit includes Apricot Kernel Oil complex and JAUM Balancing Complex to prevent collagen breakdown, improves skin elasticity, provides long lasting hydration, glow, and radiance.

Perfecting Cushion Brightening on another hand is a medium coverage cushion foundation that gives a brightening effect with White Magnolia Extract and Mother of Pearl complex. It intelligently absorb unnecessary sebum from the skin with Oil Capture System infused in the product. This is the reason why the product is able to stay on the skin without the sticky feel. I will have to try this to find out myself. Intriguing! Available in seven shades in total; that includes three new shades.

Perfecting Cushion (RM200, available in two shades) and Perfecting Cushion Brightening Limited Edition (RM210, available in two shades)

I know most of us like it when our favourite product came out with a Limited Edition collector’s item packaging. If you are a collector of Sulwhasoo Perfect Cushion and Perfect Cushion Brightening, you will be delighted to know that both cushion came out with limited edition packaging from a collaboration with contemporary ‘Minhwa’ artist, Donah Lee. The motives interpret the Korean tradion ‘Hwajeopdo’, a traditional butterflies and flowers painting decorative art for the royalty. It carries a wishes of happiness and wellbeing of their families.

Makeup Balancer SPF25/PA++

An all new product from Sulwhasoo is this Makeup Balancer. A 3rd generation makeup base that balances the power of skin, balances skin’s moisture and balances uneven skin tone, prepping the skin for the next makeup step. Makeup Balancer comes in two colours – No. 1 Light Pink, which is suitable for all skin tone that has pomegranate extracts to create a pink radiance to the skin, and No. 2 Light Purple that has peony extracts to correct dull and yellowish skin tone.

Essential Concealer Stick

Another new product from Sulwhasoo for its K-Beauty Makeup Collection is the Essential Concealer Stick. It has camellia oil to provide deep hydration to the under eyes especially and apricot kernel oil that works to firm and smooth the skin. The concealer is also suitable to cover blemishes and uneven skin tones. Comes in two shades – #1 Medium Pink for the under eyes dark circles, and #2 Medium Beige for any redness on the cheeks or reddening blemishes.

Essential Lip Serum Stick (available in 5 colours)

The last item from the collection is the moisture-boosting Essential Lip Serum Stick. It seems that tinted lip balm are in trend and Sulwhasoo too jumped into the bandwagon with this rich texture tinted lip balm. It is infused with Camellia oil and safflower complex to moisturize the lips and plump up the lips by formining a double layer of moisture. Apricot Kernel Oil and Elastic Complex fills the surface of the lips making them looking more plump. The shine and natural color comes from red apricot extract.

Who doesn’t love a pretty makeup packaging right? I’m a sucker for anything cute, pretty, pink and exquisite design. What I didn’t know or realise is that Sulwhasoo special edition compact powder foundation – Shine Classic is released once every year since making it’s debut in 2003. This year, the focus of Shine Classic design will feature the Mother-of-Pearl, a modern reinterpretation of Korean aesthetics that combines luxury and tradition.

I just died looking at these!

Sulwhasoo collaborated with artist Hyun Kyung Lee in designing the 2014 Shine Classic. Hyun Kyung Lee uses small reactangular fragments of the Mother-of-Pearl for the design on the case, to envision a plum blossom design. To add a modern touch to the Shine Classic design, rectangular pieces which represents elegant Korean women are applied into the design to express a more natural and beautiful plum blossom rather than a plum blossom in curves. Translucent white plum blossom is placed on top of the background design to further enhance the natural colours of the Mother-of-Pearl. Pistils of plum blossoms are then placed right at the centre as a symbolisation of elegance and dignified beauty. This unique combination proves to be one contrast design.

The Mother-of-Pearl often are associated with wealth and elegance. Sulwhasoo recognised the signification in this and uses sophisticated as well as modern techniques to highlight the beauty of the Mother-of-Pearl and in delivering the harmonious beauty of tradition and modernity that Sulwhasoo pursues.

Overall for 2014, there are two distinctive designs representing each Shine Classic variant i.e White for the Powder Compact variant and Blue for the Multi-colour Powder Compact version. The powder also carries the Mother-of-Pearl design elements with design motives of the plum blossom featured at the centre of the compact powder.

Shine Classic Powder Compact (RM440 – 9g x 2 which includes a refill, a puff and a pouch)

The case design of this variant features a white plum blossom on top of a beige background to symbolize pure and clear skintone. White also represents pure plum blossoms of winter and its function to deliver clear and pure skin. Applying this compact powder not only helps in minimising flaws on the skin but it also adds brightness to the skin while at the same time protects the skin from aggressors, leaving it as delicate as petals.

The compact powder is available in No 2 (Calm Tone) for a more natural and subtle look.

Shine Classic Multi-color Powder Compact (RM440 – 9g which includes a brush and a pouch)

The Multi-colour Powder Compact case which features the white plum blossom on top of a blue background colour with yellow polka dots helps to bring out the multiple colours of the Mother-of-Pearl in symbolising the colorful and mysterious
image of this variant. The Multi-colour Powder Compact functions as a highlighter to promote radiance and vitality with its diversity of colors. The colors of the beautiful plum petals deliver translucency and purity.
