If you missed SK-II’s Beauty Bound Asia last year, fret not as Beauty Bound returned for Season 2 with a twist. Season 2 will incorporate first of its kind beauty web reality series involving judges and mentors from varied niches beyond the beauty industry while creating a community of beauty creators for beauty creators. All of us would get to follow the journey of aspiring digital creators as they chase their dreams to be the region’s next beauty vlogging sensation through these web series.

The web series, which will be released on YouTube and shared on various platforms in participating countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan in February 2017, will create new opportunities for these aspiring beauty creators to increase their exposure in the region.

Joining the Malaysia’s panel of judge-mentors this year are Beauty Blogger and YouTuber Tashy from Beauty with Tashy, actress and social media influencer Sharifah Sakinah and Digital Illustrator and Ola Bola actress Marianne Tan. The winner of this year’s Beauty Bound will receive an invitation into the exclusive SK-II Global Beauty Circle, which includes an all-expenses paid trip to an SK-II global event, networking and collaboration opportunities with international top beauty creators, an exclusive 1 week exchange program in the U.S hosted by industry experts like StyleHaul, the largest global style community of content creators, in addition to professional video production equipment and a year’s worth of SK-II products.

Alright girls. As promised in my Beauty Bound Asia introduction post and Phase 1 post-event mini report, I attended the Beauty Bound Asia Phase 2 workshop, which was held on the 3rd October at Ruyi & Lyn Restaurant in Bangsar Shopping Centre together with the lucky 29 finalist, meticulously chosen from 73 contestants from Phase 1.

Although I did not participate in Beauty Bound Asia, however I was appointed as one of the influencer for the program and guess what? I get to be at the workshops together with all the finalists. That means, I get to learn whatever these finalists are learning as well lah. In fact, I reached Phase 2 event venue just in time for the YouTube session. It was the highlight agenda of the day for me because I get to learn the tips and tricks of YouTube. You know, just in case I decided to start a YouTube channel. Who knows?

Phase 2 is more of a workshop day for 29 finalists. Besides the YouTube session where everyone get to learn all they need to know about YouTube, there are also panel discussion with two coaches / judges from Malaysia, beauty tips from EH! magazine, SK-II makeup workshop, and hackathon challenge where finalists need to complete a make-over in 30 minutes. Phew!

Right after the YouTube session is the panel discussion with two coaches / judges – Farhanah Firdaus, or better known as Faa Firds on YouTube and of course the gorgeous Emily Quak.

Then, there are 3 different workshop/challenge happening at the same time. So, 29 finalists were separated into three groups, taking turns for each workshop/challenge. I sat a while at the session where EH! Managing Editor, Izza Safinaz Ibrahim shared insights on beauty trends with some of the finalists.

I spent quite a bit of time in the SK-II makeup workshop. Yeap. Trying to pick up more new makeup techniques from none other than makeup guru Khir Khalid.

The one and only challenge for the workshop is the hackathon challenge, where all 29 finalists had to do a make-over in 30mins. Now, that is not easy. I can’t even do my makeup and hair in one hour! What more 30 minutes.

It is stressful alright. None of them really paid attention to us snapping their photos away *lol* as they are busy concentrating with the challenge. I spot my fellow blogger friend Farisha Nadia at the challenge and I just had to disturb and say Hi

All 29 finalists must take part in an online challenge to be eligible for the next stage. This online challenge is made up of two parts – unboxing challenge and the ‘No make-up, make-up look’ video.

(1) Yet another unboxing challenge

Okay. I’m jealous. I’m officially jealous. 5 minutes after I walked in to the event, I was told that each of the finalists will be given ANOTHER SK-II box for an unboxing challenge. So I secretly sneak a box for some photos. Even the finalists are not aware of this when I was happily photographing at the lobby. And I have to look left, right, front, back just in case any of them saw it lol.

Same as Phase 1, each 29 finalists received a box of SK-II goodies before they left. They are to post an unboxing video on their channel and their reviews on the products on camera.

(2) The ‘No make-up, make-up look’ Video

That’s not all. Besides the unboxing video, all finalists are also required to upload a video on their “no makeup, makeup look”. They are to demo on how to achieve the perfect no makeup look by using and showing the skincare and products, makeup, hair styling, and explaining their personal tips and techniques. The trick is? The video should not exceed 5 minutes.

Out of 29 finalists, only two (2) will represent Malaysia and make it to the Asia Finals in Tokyo this November. The announcement on which of the lucky 2 national finalists will be made known on 21st October 2015. So do remember to keep an eye on http://beautyboundasia.com/!

My routine every morning with a cup of coffee is to click on each and every channel listed in my 20 Must-Watch YouTube Beauty Channels and 10 Must-Watch YouTube Beauty Channels – Part 2. Why only six YouTube channels this time? I didn’t want the title to be a repentance i.e. 10 or 20 so I decided to talk about six YouTubers instead . And, these six YouTubers happened to be my current favourite channel to stalk

Jaclyn Hill is HUGE in YouTube. I have no idea why I did not know about this last time but it’s not too late. Jaclyn Hill recently collaborated with Becca Cosmetics for her own highlighter named Champaign Pop. It is the best-seller highlighter so far and constantly sold out. She is affiliated with Morphe for Jaclyn Hill Favorites Palette (which is currently out of stock as well), Gerard Cosmetics for two lipsticks (Buttercup and 1995) and two lip glosses (Rose Hill and Buttercream), which she no longer want to be associated anymore, an up-coming eyeshadow palette with Makeup Geek, and her own makeup line, which will be named as Jaclyn Hill Collection.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with LustreLux! I’m a fan girl. I got to know LustreLux through Desi Perkin’s channel as she would sometimes popped into her videos while she was filming. So I search for LustreLux on YouTube and found her channel. Her makeup tutorials are very easy to understand and replicate at home as she zoom in close enough for me to see what she was doing step by step. Same as Desi, Chrisspy, and Christen, LustreLux is also a part of the Ipsy team.

(3) Chloe Morello

I discovered Chloe Morello from one of Pixiwoo video, and NikkieTutorials’ GET READY WITH ME + Chloe Morello video. She look like Leighton Meester! Let’s not tell that to Chloe. I’m sure she get that a lot and she might get angry .

I love it when other YouTuber feature another YouTuber in her video. This is also how I get to discover more talented makeup artist on YouTube. Which is exactly how I found Jkissa. Thanks to Michelle Phan, I cannot get enough of Jkissa. I wish she upload video everyday! . I like Jkissa not only for her talented makeup skills but for her unique personality. She embraced her natural skin and freckles therefore she do not wear foundation. How cool is that! Check her out. She is also associated to Michelle Phan’s other channel ICON.

You cannot get anyone as genuine as Dani. She is honestly the most genuine, cheerful and down to earth YouTuber I encountered. Her makeup tutorials are the ‘girl next door’ kind of tutorials, very real to life. Everytime I watch her video, I get all cheerful and happy from the positive vibe she channeled through her videos. Dani also collaborated with ColourPop for Metamorphosis eyeshadow quad, which I bought and love <3

I think I found Nicole’s channel one day when I was bored and was searching for daily vlog to watch. Then I found out that she is also a beauty YouTuber. She own her own skincare line titled Best Damn Beauty (love that name). I find it funny that in one of her makeup tutorial video that she kept pilling up eyeshadow and kept blending and blending. She did warn about the blending part

Search programs are well-known in the USA and trends are slowly moving into Malaysia. When it comes to a beauty related search program, Beauty Bound Asia would be the first. It reminds me of Masterchef, but on a digital platform.

Beauty Bound Asia, presented by SK-II on YouTube is the region’s premier digital search and creator cultivation program for emerging online beauty talent. Like I said, this would be the first beauty related search program therefore it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact and learn from the world’s best beauty creators, beauty brands, and digital experts.

What Beauty Bound Asia is all about?

Participants will need to go through time-based challenges, mentorship programs and workshops especially curated and led by top beauty influencers in Asia and industry experts. Its initiative is to help discover and cultivate the next generation of online beauty experts. Beauty Bound Asia are opened to all legal residents of 11 cities such as Tokyo, Seoul, Osaka, Taipei, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, and Sydney. As part of this program, YouTube and top YouTube stars will be supporting this initiative by offering skill-building workshops for Beauty Bound Asia finalists.

The list of coaches from the region’s top beauty creators are amazing. That includes the original beauty YouTuber Michelle Phan (yay!), with over 7.8 million followers on YouTube and over 1.9 million on Instagram. I couldn’t think of anyone else that would be the best coach other than Michelle. She has always been a supporter to the global beauty creator community by helping other creators in the best possible ways. She also co-founded ipsy, the world’s largest online beauty focused community. Michelle has involved hugely in the creative force for Beauty Bound, by designing a number of the beauty creator challenges personally, and mentoring and judging the finalists from each city in the Tokyo program finale. Talented beauty gurus such as Sasaki Asahi (Japan), Calary Girl (Korea), Momay (Thailand), and Wengie (Australia) amongst many others have also extended their support as coaches.

What is it in for Creators?

Many! You know you are talented and you are stuck. You don’t know what to do next and how to bring your beauty career to the next level. Beauty Bound Asia is the platform to help you to make it to the industry, step by step. Creators will have experienced mentors from industry experts to help polish their skills in every possible ways.

73 contestants made it to Phase 1 of the challenge that was held recently on 12th September at Makespace, Quill City Mall Kuala Lumpur. Here are some photos from the event.

Qualification to Phase 2 was easy peasy for the contestants. Each of them was given a huge box of SK-II products before they left. What they have to do is to upload an unboxing video on YouTube. They are specifically told to only unbox when they are ready to film as the video needed to be as genuine as it can be. Contestants will then try and test the products on camera and share the review in the video. Easy right?

I say all the contestants are one lucky girl because the new SK-II R.N.A. Power range is also included in the box!! Both the products are SK-II’s best essence and cream developed to date.

Looking at the box content and if I were to choose one of my favourite SK-II product from the box, I would say it’s the Mid-Day Miracle Essence and Mid-Night Miracle Essence. Cate Blanchett was the inspiration behind the creation of this duo product. She said that she would decanted out a small amount of Facial Treatment Essence and put it into a small spray bottle to keep her skin fresh all day while on-the-go. I thought that was brilliant and I am very much into using facial mist throughout the whole day as well. It’s hard for me not to like these.

I like that SK-II kept the content to below 100ml so that it is travel-friendly. The bottle is made from high quality plastic and the spray pump worked like a dream. It also smells better in my opinion comparing to the normal Facial Treatment Essence. It keep my face properly hydrated and fresh without ruining my makeup. The Mid-Night Miracle Essence is also a special one as it contain a cooling agent to soothe the skin and senses after a long day of accumulation of damage. The face feels all tingly and minty, which is odd but feels good at the same time. The mist particles for both are extremely fine and airy, which are very much to my liking and preference for a face mist

Beauty Bound Asia Phase 2

National Finalists for Phase 2 have just been announced on Beauty Bound Asia website yesterday. Phase 2 will be happening on the 3rd October at Ruyi & Lyn Restaurant in Bangsar Shopping Centre.
