While many people use Clarins White Plus HP Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum to whiten their complexion and pigmentation, I on the other hand use it for something else. My main problem has always been acne marks. After trying a few trial size of Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum that was given to me from my various haul, I think it’s okay for me to move forward. I switched from All Spots Whitening Corrector to this just recently as All Spots Whitening Corrector is mainly for pigmentation and it’s expensive too.
Clarins claimed that this lightweight serum is the ultimate in hyper pigmentation control and skin tone correction with dramatic results in just 4 weeks. Acne marks are not as extreme as pigmentation so I suppose it’ll work faster if not better?
There’s nothing special about the bottle. I suppose this is the new version since the logo is the updated version.
What I don’t like is the cap. It’s not properly and tightly sealed. The bottle always slip from my hand everytime I took the bottle by it’s cap especially when it’s new and still heavy.
The pump head looks very similar to the one on Shaping Facial Lift. The pump system pumped out sufficient amount of serum in a short stroke. Each time I’d need 2 pumps for the whole face.
Clarins Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum contains Clarins’ exclusive Sea Lily extract helps stop melanin in its tracks, before it can be released into the skin’s surface. The serum have a strong Sea Lily scent which is quite pleasant on the nose. The scent will stay on for a few second before disappearing.
The texture is lightweight as claimed. It dissolved immediately into the skin as soon as we pat it on. For a whitening product this is moisturizing enough surprisingly. But I’d like to top it up with HydraQuench Cream-Gel.
For some reason I felt that it works in preventing acne marks when I was just using the 10ml trial size. When I bought a full size and started using it the effectiveness is not there anymore. I’d expect this to work as good as All Spots Whitening Corrector due to it’s name “Intensive” and I might be wrong. I don’t see any brightening effect too which is quite odd. I think RubyCollagen Essence gave me more brightening effect LOL. This is suppose to be better than Velvet Emulsion but sadly it’s the same for me. But I will still continue using this bottle because it doesn’t harm my skin anyway prevention is always better than cure right?
Sad to say this is the 2nd item from Clarins that I’d not repurchase after finishing. First is Beauty Flash Balm which is total useless too.
Clarins White Plus HP Intensive Whitening Smoothing Serum is available at all Clarins counter nationwide.
Price: RM275 for 30ml
Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored review. I bought the product on my own.

I once read someone’s blog and she said that the actual product wasn’t as effective as the sample she got. Which got me wondering, is it true? That the samples are actually more effective that the actual product?
I am not so sure Jojo. A reader told me the same this morning in my FB too. This got me thinking too.
Hmmm…I better think twice after reading this.
You’re thinking to buy this Eileen? So far I’ve heard the good about this from my friends. Maybe it’s just different on me I guess 🙂
Yes dear.. i plan to get this on next members day, i’ve tried the sample given, worked out OK.
Let me buy the full size and let you know the outcome.. hehe
by the way, i did bought the bi-phase serum and cream gel too.. the serum seems a bit oily like u said, maybe i will use it during the night only. Day i will go for the Intensive whitening serum and the emusion
Yea get the full size and try. Maybe it’s different for you 🙂
The improvised HydraQuench Bi-phase serum is less oiler compared with the old formula but yet still a bit too heavy for day use. I only use it at night. Last time my skin is so dehydrated that I need 5 pumps. Now 2 is enough for me.
Same here…2pump is enough too
Thanks for sharing. I have not used any whitening products. I have tried the Estee Lauder Cyberwhite Full Spectrum Brightening Essence sample sized so cannot see the effect anyway. Yeah, quite sad when the word Intensive is used in the product name and the effect is somewhat not there. Better luck with another product I guess? 🙂
I’m not very keen with whitening products hehe. Just needed something to lighten acne marks. I guess I can say I’m lucky that I don’t have pigmentation since it’s harder to be removed. My heart ache a bit when I bought this. It’s expensive for a serum 🙁
Yeah, same here. Just want to lighten acne marks and make skin look radiant and not dull. Also to lighten the fine lines and prevent pigmentation if any 😛 Haha, looking for a wonder product. Quite keen to try Dior One Essential serum though it cost a bomb. But I suppose Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus is ok too.
Well, if you are keen with Dior my eBay seller have one to sell hehe. Cheaper too. Otherwise Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus is okay too 🙂
Some products, when you use the sample, it is very effective. However, when you buy and use the full size, it’s not that effective anymore. Been there, done that. Still doing it. Now, I would stop and think (many times) before I purchase the product. On the other hand, it could be our mind playing with us. We might have the mindset that the product (sample size) work because we want it to work so badly. Then we go and purchase the full size, only to realize it later that it is not that effective. I still fall for this. Got a travel size shower gel. Love it so much. Went and bought the full size, and I find myself not liking it anymore. The scent is just not right. Must be my mind playing with me. Heh.
This is my first time feeling that sample works better than the full size. Never had this before. Kinda sad cause this is expensive. But again like you said it could be psychology.
For me, most of the time, sample size works well for me.. until I get the full size. Maybe that’s me being fickle minded -_-
Your mind is playing with you hehehehe
Now my skin is playing with me. Or maybe it is time for facial. So not motivated to go for facials these days.
What happen? Breakout?
Breakout. Besides that, the products that used to work well on my skin is now unsuitable for my skin. Odd thing is, my previous products work well on my skin now. Crazy cycle.
Our skin changes. Now my skin is more stabilize. Still not the right time to unveil although I’m super excited about it.
I actually had a problem with this product… it stings my skin slightly upon application, and left it feeling sensitized. This is the 2nd time Clarins did this to me… so i’m rather upset. 🙁
I’m so sorry to hear this silverkis. This is my first time hearing allergy cases from using Clarins. Are you are allergic to Sea Lily perhaps? I mean floral ingredient. The new version that replaced this serums doesn’t contain Sea Lily anymore. Or maybe your skin can’t take whitening products. Whitening products tend to sting the skin for some users. This has ascorbyl glucoside which is the active ingredient that boost the whitening effect.
no, it’s not really allergy… but i do think there’s something in there that may be too harsh for me… just wish i knew what it is!
Yes, there’s a particular ingredient that you are allergic to. Have you tried other range from Clarins? If other range you can use which means whitening is not for you.
I just found that this product says 30ml and net weight of 1.06oz on the bottle, but the serum itself is not even up to 5ml. I was curious and I cut the container open. Is that not a rip off? It does work, but I think this is fraud. That big whole container is empty with the serum of about 5ml around the pump. Outrageously expensive! I’m upset.
No such thing Idy. Your bottle must be a manufacture defect bottle which you must go back to Clarins counter and ask for replacement. All Clarins product that I bought is heavy, full and lasted me for 3 months which is what you should be experiencing if you are using day and night daily.
by the way i the trial pack for super restorative which has wake-up lotion, day cream and replenishing comfort mask but the ingredients got parabens but i guess its ok (approval amount)
Its okay one. Most skincare is with paraben. Some a lot, some are approval amount like Clarins.
i thought of buying serum but i try the sample, i feel is a bit light (the ingredients got glycerin, sodium hydraulnate) so i was it might be hydrating lightening my pigmentation. I guess after reading yr review, i better get it. I want get some clarins products next month cos July, my birthday month. What products u thinks is good and will suit me, dry mature skin, i want to get their milk toner, milk cleanser, compact powder (for dry skin) and u got other recomendations.
Serum is suppose to be light. Which is why for your dry skin you will need to top up with a cream ;). Ooo birthday month double point! Mine is September.
For mature skin right, Supra (maroon color) range suits you. By the way, I’m selling off my compact powder hehehe. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=389148967872719&set=a.293555060765444.70705.248759825244968&type=3&theater
I suggest you try Double Serum. It will suits you since its bi-phase and might be a bit oily for other skin type.
