Neutrogena Review: Skin Care Skin Care - Sunblock/Sunscreen

Review: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion SPF50+ PA+++

Phew what a long name for a sunblock! I was given Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion SPF50+ PA+++ last month as a part of an event door gift. I never get sunblock as door gift before and I was kind of addicted to sunblock so I love love loveeee this!

Neutrogena4
To be frank I never seen this around at any drugstore before. Even recently when I tried to find this at Watsons and Guardian to check for the price I couldn’t find it at several outlet. How weird.

Who would have thought Neutrogena came out with a sunblock. I only know Neutrogena when it comes to skin care. And that’s pretty much it. This one is called Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion which is rather confusing for me at first. Lotion is also another name for “toner”. When I saw this I thought it’s toner but then when I see that it comes with SPF50+ PA+++ I realized this could be is a sunblock.

Neutrogena5
Neutrogena kept the bottle simple but serve it’s purpose. The dispensing nozzle is narrow and slim. I like it because it dispense the sunblock out nicely and stop when I stop squeezing the bottle. I can easily control how much I need with this nozzle.

Neutrogena6
I’m glad to say that I finally found the dupe version of Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection (Tinted)! By accident of course :). When I dispense the sunblock out for the first time I was surprised to see that it’s very similar to Clarins Tinted version. As you can see from the below dollop comparison picture Neutrogena one are more gluey compared with Clarins. It doesn’t budge a bit when I tried to move my hand whereas Clarins one runs off it’s original place a bit.

Neutrogena7
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Complete UV Waterlight Lotion SPF50+ PA+++ is slightly drier than it’s competitor. I notice that too when I apply it on my face. It’s slightly tinted and appear in a light pink color as it serve as evening skin tone just like Clarins. It has a pleasant scent to it but disappear as soon as I pat it on. Unlike Clarins this Neutrogena sunblock doesn’t leave a pink cast. I’m surprised to see that it appears transparent. I suppose it’s a good thing too.

Neutrogena8
I kept this on my table top so I’m reaching for this more than others. I like that it has evening skin tone properties but doesn’t leave a pink cast on my face. Although this comes with SPF50+ PA+++ I don’t find this heavy and oily at all. In fact this is slightly on the drier side. I actually kinda like this. The fact that I can’t find this anywhere worries me. What if I need to repurchase? I’m still unsure if this is discontinued or new product that haven’t launch to the market yet.

If you always wanted to try Clarins sunblock but it hurts your wallet just a bit due to it’s higher price tag, then this is what you need to get. It’s a closest, perfect dupe that you probably can get at the drug store at a much more cheaper price which I bet your wallet won’t be crying out loud. Let me email Neutrogena to find out more about this and I’ll update the review when I have the necessary info 🙂

Disclaimer: Product is a part of door gift given to me. This doesn’t affect my judgement in the review in any way.

    • Never tried Biore ones. Don’t think so I’m going to purchase Biore ones (gotta finish home stash yo) so I cannot tell you how this compares to Biore 🙂

I like Clarins sunblock very much. As much as I always wanted to stray from it I still don’t lol. If this doesn’t come to my way last month I don’t think so I’d purchase another sunblock though.

  • Yay… I bought the older version of this sunblock but hated it. It was like all the rest, creamy and stinks. Will definitely try this new version it comes out. Like you, I like Clarins sunblock, no smell and easy to use and lastly, isn’t drying on the skin.
By the way, have your tried Sunplay’s SPF 50 sunblock, its quite similar to Clarins but without any tinting.

    • This is slightly drier than Clarins ya.

I’m not a fan of Sunplay though. And I like tinting. If I can choose which to buy I’d go for Biore or Hada Labo.

  • Looks a good find albeith the hunt 🙂 If it is lightweight and has a “dry” finishing, then it’s good! I am using Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50+ PA+++. This is my sunblock HG because it is superior in terms of oil control. Granted it contains alcohol. It gives a powdery finishing but does not have the dry or tight feeling. But it does accentuate the lines and pores on my face when I smile or something. I might give this Neutrogena one a try or recommend to my sister. She found the Hada Labo one a little oily for her acne skin. Good find on your side, thanks for sharing!

    • I think Neutrogena one had a bit of oil control too because everytime I used it my face somehow less oiler which is why I like it and reach out for this more than Clarins recently. Hearing you said that Hada Labo is oiler then I can’t go for it. After today’s Kanebo skin analyze I found out I’m nearing oily skin now 🙁

  • When I first started to use Hada Labo, it was ok…better than L’oreal UV Perfect Matte SPF30. You see, before this I never use any sunblock because it was sticky and gave that uncomfortable oily feeling. Then I went for regular facial and my therapist told me the risk of pigmentation. Hmm ok…Hada Labo gives a dewy finishing and makes my powder foundation cakey by mid day. Still it was quite ok if I blot after lunch. I read a fair bit about Biore and of course, the fact it contains alcohol will put some people off. It’s got a strong alcohol smell and you will sniff it if you apply near your nose. It’s runny and milky, gives a powdery finishing and great as make up base.

Hmm cheer up babe! Oily skin means less wrinkle formation 😛 That’s what I tell myself. After dealing with oily skin for so long like a pan fried face, lol…I think these days it’s getting better with proper skincare regime. I get confused when some BA tells me that my skin is actually dehydrated underneath, hence the additional sebum secretion.

    • Sigh. I’m already combination skin and I’m sad about it. Then during skin allergy I went to dry and sensitive. After I recovered I’m oily. What la.

I know what the BA mean by dehydrated underneath. Your skin is oily on the outside because you’re actually dry on the inside (lack of water). When you skin is dry it sent a message thus your skin is producing more oil to keep your skin hydrated.

  • Hmm…cheer up 🙂 Sometimes our skin just change due to stress, allergy and hormone. I understand how you feel, from one skin type to another, keeps changing. You’ve been using good products post allergy, hopefully it will slowly help restore your skin condition. It’ll get better in time. Hugs 🙂

  • If I remember correctly, it was available briefly at Watsons. But no more – I’ve checked today. I have few sunblocks, both budget and splurge version. I stopped using because it makes my skin dry. I can see some fine lines on my face later in the day.

    • Is it? I have no idea cause never bought sunblock before Clarins and never really browse for skin care at drugstore hehe.

If you hate dry sunblock try Clarins Neutral or Tinted. These are more to the wet texture. You won’t like Beige cause it’s like liquid foundation. For me I like Beige cause it matte out my face.
