I had heard so much about Lunasol’s liquid foundation but frankly speaking I had never wanted to check it out as I’m not into liquid foundation previously. Now that I’m hooked to foundation my mind drifted once again to Lunasol.
Thanks to a pink carpet event organized by Vanity Trove Malaysia in collaboration with Kanebo Malaysia, I booked myself for a session slot and that session comes with a special Kanebo trove. There it was…Lunasol Modeling Water Liquid Foundation sitting in the trove waiting to be discovered. The one I had was a lighter shade in OC02 that suits my skin tone quite well.
The bottle is frosty glass. Quite classy with bronzy high quality plastic cap that unfortunately attract fingerprints. The bottle is not that huge as the content is just at 25ml which is much lesser than other foundie in the market. The smallest foundation I’ve ever seen is 30ml. Perhaps it’s good so that I can finish the foundation up real quick and grab a new one to try eh?
The lower part of the pump is made from the same bronzy plastic as the cap. The nozzle part on the other hand is made from transparent plastic. For an unknown reason some foundation escaped from the inside so I can see splashes of foundation on the transparent nozzle. Not quite happy about that. You know I hate dirty make up. Other than that the pump works wonderfully
Lunasol Modeling Water Liquid Foundation is a liquid foundation that has approximately 55% water composition that when applied onto skin, it will be integrated with the skin, creating a moist texture and making the skin look even more beautiful. That explains the name “modelling water”. This foundation emphasis on a new technology has been adopted to achieve excellent adhesion to the skin while maintaining outstanding spreadability and a light feel.
Although it’s made from approximately 55% water composition, this is not a light coverage foundation AT ALL. It actually give me a full coverage on but if you are someone who’s like me that are into medium coverage, just use lesser and build on when you feel you wanted more.
By far this foundation shade gives me the nearest to my own skin tone color. Because it look so natural I don’t look like I had foundation on. But of course that’s not the reality here LOL. I like that it feels light on my face and doesn’t look like I had too much on even if I build for more coverage. It goes on smooth without streaky lines. I prefer to use my fingers to apply this foundation. It is absolutely moisturizing and keeps the oil at bay for a good first few hours. Oil secretion was delayed for slightly longer compared with other foundation. Not bad.
Whenever I need a long lasting foundation for a specific day I would opt for this. Some foundation slips away or disappear slightly but this foundation stays put even on my oily skin, but it doesn’t last till evening. If you find that it’s too oily for you… just use a tissue, lay flat on your face and blot lightly, smooth the streaks with your fingers before setting with loose powder. This trick will get rid of the oil slightly so the face stays matte a lil bit longer.
Are you a Lunasol foundation fan too? I’m kind of a late fan but it’s never too late to discover a good foundation right?

kanebo has been my top1 foundie until..ahem came around hehe..i have this one and their gel foundie.. the one i have is oc3 though…and i think i have became fairer coz it seems 1shade too dark already =(
still like it a lot hehe…
but i do have quite some slip after 5hours, 3in hot afternoon.. it cant stay even with base… haiz…
What you can do is to layer lesser skin care. That way your face don’t oil up that soon hehe. I personally do that and blot away excess oil with tissue before setting with powder. This foundie is less heavy than water gel I think. As for the base you can try Burberry Fresh Glow. It stays longer on this base for some reason lol.
OC03 is dark for you. Cause OC02 is just nice for me. We have similar tone hehe.
It was just nice 1year ++ ago.. Somehow I got fairer! Lol.. Suprising as I never use any whitening skincare except on my scarsssss..
I used it with their base.. And Rmk.. Both slip.. I shall attempt use less skincare and blot and see.. =)
I think cause you went out door lesser dear hehe.
RMK base not suitable cause that will give dewy finishing. Will slip. Use a more matte base maybe 🙂
Love Kanebo products, but my favorites are actually their eyeshadows. Probably one of the best out there.
Kanebo are not bad. I heard Lunasol eyeshadow are great. I’ve yet to get any. Not sure I want to be overload with eyeshadow palette lol.
Ermm… Nvr try lunasol before.. Perhaps once i finish my current foundation will consider this!
I find that I took a longgggg time to finish a bottle of foundation especially when I keep rotating among the stash. So yes finish before getting one is good idea haha.
My favourite liquid foundation … always 🙂
Yes! 🙂 You told me from the first day I know you 😉
Hi, Fiona. Any tips on how to choose base colour? I always got trouble with this. I wonder if it is my skin colour that keep on changing.
Hi Yi Lian. Here’s what I do. Go to the counter bare face. Ask for a consultation whereas the BA will apply the shade that suits your skin tone directly on your face. Now, the tricky part is that the BA might think certain shade is your shade while you may not think so. So…tell the BA you’ll go for a walk around the mall for 1 to 2 hours. After that look into the mirror to see if your skin is oily, cakey or turns darker. If it’s darker means the foundation oxidize on your. If it does…get 1 shade lighter. Remember not to check at beauty counter. Often the lighting is not suitable. You may look nice inside the mall but when you go out you’d had a shock hehe. Try to see if the washroom lighting is okay. KLCC and Pavilion washroom lighting for example are okay.
Thanks for the detailed tips including the phrase to tell the BA, washroom lighting and duration to roam the mall. Haha love you for it!
No problem for that! Roaming around the mall is important. Need to let the makeup settle and wait for the face to oil up naturally to judge the oil control properties and oxidization issue :). Normally I’d just get 1 shade lighter because all foundation oxidize on me.
Thanks for the great tips! Most of the BA thinks that I am yellow tone, but when I tried on yellow tone foundation, I think it makes me look more yellow. @@ That is quite troubling. Think I have to find one good day and play around with colours to explore. By the way, I am not quite keen to try the foundation on my whole face, which part of face do you think is better? Oh, about the lighting, thanks for telling that, no wonder always look better at the beauty counter.
That’s because most Asian are yellow tone. If you look more yellow it could be that you are pink tone. Have you tried any pink tone base before? Or you can do a simple test to find out. Look for your vein. If you have blue vein means you are pink tone, if green means you are yellow tone. This vein test doesn’t work for everyone though but it’s the simplest. Or you can apply pink tone base on one side of the jawline and yellow tone base on the other side. The one that blended well to your skin tone is your tone.
As for your foundation trying at counter, if you don’t have any issue with oil secretion like I do…I’d suggest applying from upper jawline to below jawline (on the way to the neck). You would want the foundation color to match your neck color too :). To try if the foundation oxidize or not would need whole face cause normally oil secretion is the problem to oxidize foundation.
beauty counter lighting are mostly nice lighting lolx. gals look prettier there, hahaha
You are right. The lighting are nice and bright but I still prefer natural lighting to check on makeup :). Often I looked darker when I go out and I have no idea why.
Lovely and flawless finishing! Such natural look. Love it! Japanese make up are good stuffs I guess.
Me too! Look at my face’s tone with my neck. They’re matchy match lol. Japanese makeup are really good. Just like RMK as well.
