I can be very random at times. Although I have been thinking to check out the Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote at Michael Kors boutique, I never really set a target to buy it. Maybe I’ll buy after checking it out but just never went straight on buying. The randomness hit me on my birthday eve while I was driving to Dome The Gardens Mall for breakfast with Jerine.
Right after breakfast, I went up to the Information Counter to ask which level is Michael Kors. To my disappointment…it’s not opened yet. Dang! The desire to buy it right away was so strong that I can’t stop thinking of getting it. Ultimately both me and Jerine went to Kate Spade as they have something similar but it was not as good looking as Michael Kors. We also thought of rushing over to Pavilion but I needed to haul some skin care at Clarins Metrojaya so I went home without a Michael Kors bag that day. You see…I’m not someone that will buy luxury bag. To spend on one on birthday eve gave me a solid reason to buy one for myself.
So a week later (which is last Sunday) I drove to Pavilion. Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote at Pavilion boutique was selling like hot cake that they only have Navy, Black and Vanilla. I requested for the SA to check on other branch on Luggage (color name for brown) and looks like One Utama still have it.
So I rushed over to Michael Kors One Utama.
Michael Kors boutique at One Utama is the second outlet in Malaysia if I’m not mistaken. Pavilion one was so much smaller comparing with One Utama. However being one of the luxury brand here, both outlet’s SA is extremely polite and helpful. I wasn’t dress to kill on that day when I stepped into both boutique. I never do on weekends 😛 and I was treated with extreme good customer service.
There’s a lot of temptations in the boutique. Everything is nicely displayed that you want to grab everything home. I knew I’d get distracted so I just set my eyes on Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote. Randomness actually hit me again while I was driving to Pavilion. I thought if I would pay near to RM1.5k for a bag, I might as well add more to get a Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM. But then again…Neverfull MM is made from canvas. The straps are thin and since I’m in the sales line, I put my bag everywhere. Spending more than RM2k for a canvas bag that the strap could snap off easily is not feasible for my daily usage torture. Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium is made from Saffiano leather, which is the same material used on some Prada leather bags. You do the math 😀
The colors available for Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote varies according to season. I was also interested with Tangerine but according to Pavilion SA, that’s past season color.
For Fall 2013, Michael Kors stocked up on a few new colors like Navy, Sapphire, Dark Dune and the White/Black checkered and also stripes.
After I’m done with choosing the color that I want, then I was asked on which type that I want. I found out that there’s two variant of Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium. One which is the conventional tote with no zip, with huge space inside while the new variant is the one with a zip compartment in the middle. I couldn’t choose so I model both variant and looked into the mirror for comparison.
I bet you are just as curious as me on the different between both variant. Here is how both variant looks like.
But then…I still couldn’t decide. If I choose the one with compartment, I lose the needed space but I gain a more secure storage for valuable items. I was told by the SA that the compartment is especially made to store MacBook. Just what I need but I already set a mind that I WILL NOT lug my work laptop in my new bag! Couldn’t afford to let work stuff ruin my new bag :P.
Another thing to note on both variant. The straps are wider on the one with compartment while the one without still maintain it’s sleek thin strap. It’s more polite looking that way. Reason being is that the compartment are made to store notebook so wider strap is required to prevent any mishaps 🙂
There is also more pocket slots on the one with compartment. So to choose between both, it really depends on which I need.
The easiest and distinctive way to showcase the difference between both variant’s bag shape is when I modeled both bag. Yes there’s different with the look too. Although Michael Kors maintain the same width, length and so on but due to the compartment in the middle, the shape is slightly different.
This is Luggage without compartment on my shoulder. It is very spacious, looking huge on me in real but in picture it is not. The shape is just nice to look at.
This is Dark Dune with compartment on me. As you can see, the pointy bucket shape on the side is gone. The size and design is the same. But because the pointy sides are connected to the compartment in the middle, the shape somehow was tucked in just a little bit, making the bag loosing it’s iconic look. So it’s more squarer in shape and looked smaller in real too.
I’m also intrigued with the new White/Black checkered Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium. The bag is more denser and harder on touch comparing with the normal mono color version. It can stand perfectly well on it’s own. Very stylish looking bag. Reminds me of MINI car hehe :D. To be frank I couldn’t accept the design at first. I thought it’s too in-trend for this auntie but I do like how the bag looks like on me. Even my friends said the bag looks nice. Hmmm. Not sure what this bag is priced at. Maybe I should save up and get it 😉

In the end I bought the one without compartment in the middle. The reason why I thought of getting Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote initially is also due to the space. I’ve decided to stick to the original plan instead and save the compartment one for future purchase.
Do beware of sellers online that claimed their Michael Kors Jet Set Travel Medium Multi-Function Tote is authentic. I have seen most seller selling at RM750 give and take. It is just too good to be true with the 50% price difference. I have also seen fake bags with compartment. The fake ones are folded in much more on the sides making the overall shape like a round bucket. Thank God I have touch, feel, smell and model the authentic ones in the boutique otherwise I might fall for the scam too.

Haha.I am fickle minded! I couldn’t decide at all. I should have gone with a friend for second opinion. I was quite nervous that day but they offer 7 days exchange. I don’t like the bag shape of the one with compartment. But I do like both Luggage and Dark Dune. I figure I needed more brighter color so I took Luggage 🙂
Haha, yes, For the sake of familiarity, I am sure I will choose Dark Dune because it has a darker shade…But Luggage, in the long run, should age graciously and the leather shade won’t go wrong. Dark Dune is quite wearable. At first I was divided. I told the SA that I’m doomed LOL. I can’t do choices! I’ll go crazy! Actually you are right on bringing a friend. I suppose I’ll most probably ended up with a bag that a friend said it’s nice hehe. In the end I listen to my inner self. I went with the initial impression that I had on the bag…spacious, brown. That’s it 😀
I could never spend 1k because I really do not take care of my bags. I’ll just throw it on the floor or overload it with my things… My colleague says I’ll be different if I used an expensive bag but I think I’ll probably take care and sayang it for a week and then I’ll end up in my normal ways. 😛
You’re not alone. I don’t take care of my bags too. It doesn’t make any different new bag or branded bag. I just don’t LOL. Maybe I couldn’t afford to because my meetings with client are quite random. We could be in a office with no other chair, we could be in a coffee shop, we could be at an event with standing tables etc. So I put my bag everywhere. If I keep wiping the area before putting down my bag, I’d looked so weird ahahaha.
I’ve always passed by the MK outlet in 1U, and i really love their designs (the ones they display, anyway, and it’s a HUGE display window). Much nicer than Coach and a few other brands, tbh. XD I like the black and white one 😛
Oh yeah…HUGE display window because they are at the corner. I used to like Coach very much but their prices are increasing day by day :(. With that kind of price I could just pay for Kate Spade or Michael Kors and even Burberry.

If I were you I will also choose the bag you bought!! So simple and elegant! If I were to buy a luxury bag I will also buy it at their store instead of online. You can never 100% trust online things no matter what they claimed. Go to the store is so much safer.
I do have the same thought as you for coach. I will spent that money on MK or Bueberry instead of coach!! I think too many people have LV and coach and it seem like not that classy anymore. hahaha…
Means I made a good choice! Hehe. Actually I choose that bag and color because it’s more practical and useful. The design doesn’t dies off with trend :). I have to agree with you on the store. I used to buy Coach online. But that was because I know how to check and I buy from friend.

Dark Dune is ugly? Ok ok la hahaha. The checks one is cute. My clothing are not as funky as the bag. Might be hard for me to match with clothes :P. No you’re not weird. I’m sometimes into small bags, sometimes into big bags. It’s quite normal for girls to divert attention to something else.

I'm from Australia and I've been eyeing this bag for the longest time. I was going to buy it from Neiman Marcus but it just sold out on me like that and none of the stores here have it either. Now I've been sweeping the internet to find it so I stumbled upon your post. Do you know if the Michael Kors store there would ship to Australia, haas probably not right. 🙁 I would do anything for that bag right now yikes!

The price here is double of what you are paying at Australia. I have a friend who told me this multi-function tote is only selling for AUD$220? So not worth it to get it ship to Australia dear.

Nope unfortunately not. It’s no longer available on the official website too so I’m assuming its been discontinued of some sort. Actually it costs AUD$370 for the multifunction tote, you may have been mistaken for the US, which is so much cheaper!

Hello Lee. I suppose it is seasonal color which is why it is not restockable. That is why new colors are popping out and older colors no longer available. Not sure the exact price as my friend at Australia told me it’s AUD$220 hehe. But still AUD$370 is still cheap!

But after reading your entry, i decide to buy from boutique. i once went into mk pavillion, the store was small but it has two floors. but i never went into one utama yet. when you bought yours from boutique, does it comes with box and dust bag or anything? and which would you suggest? mk pavillion or one utama?

Initially I chose Pavilion as I thought the store is larger with sufficient stock. Turns out I was wrong because they have lesser stocks. I wasn’t told there’s a second floor at all. The bag that I wanted was only left a few in Pavilion. I was advised to go One Utama as they have more stocks and colors. From what I see, One Utama is definitely bigger and more room to walk around. Not as crampy as Pavilion outlet.
The bag comes with a satin dust bag. That’s all. No box or what so ever. Even Coach have a box!
