A few months ago I shared with you my first time experience with the brand Neal’s Yard Remedies which you can read from this link. There is one particular product that I couldn’t stop asking about which is the Purifying Palmarosa Mattifier. That product itself cost RM220 for a small 30ml! Yikes! I am not someone that will buy straight away without trying it out first. Good news for me, Neal’s Yard Remedies carries a few essentials kit including Purifying Palmarosa Essentials Kit. You’ve guessed it right. This kit contain a 10ml of Purifying Palmarosa Mattifier 😀

This review is going to be a quick one. But I promise you it’s a good one 😉

Neal’s Yard Remedies Purifying Palmarosa Essentials Kit – RM189

This is basically a trial kit, targeted for combination and oily skin. It comes with a Palmarosa Facial Wash 50ml, Purifying Palmarosa Mattifier 10ml and Purifying Palmarosa Daily Moisture 50ml. And of course there’s a medium size blue canvas pouch included. One thing that’s missing is a toner but it’s not really a biggie since most toner works the same for me.

The products are a blend of purifying natural ingredients that helps to control sebum for areas of the skin that is oily, while adding the essential hydration to the areas of the skin that is dry. I say it’s a win-win situation. Most people would say sebum control products are drying. Not this one though :D.

Palmarosa Facial Wash

This is a gel-like cleanser but surprisingly foams up really well. The essential aromatic is quite strong at the beginning but once I kept on using for quite some times, it’s actually the scent that I couldn’t wait for in the morning. As this is just a small 50ml bottle, I only used it in the morning to wash away all the overnight sebum and skin care from the night before. What I like about this cleanser is that it rinse off very easily and leaves no sticky residue like other gel cleanser.

The trick that I used on dispensing the right small amount onto my palm is to tilt the bottle upside down and quickly + gently squeeze once. The gel dollop will drop onto the palm and it’s sufficient for my usage :D. Kiamsiap me lol 😀

Purifying Palmarosa Mattifier

In the beginning I thought of using just this mattifier to mattifying my face. On the first day doing so, no changes with the oil secretion on my face. I continued it for the subsequent 2 days and my face is still oily. Then I remembered some skin care provide the best result if used along with each other. So I started using the whole set and it works! My oily face has never been so matte in the life before. I was really happy. The best part is my makeup doesn’t melt by mid day :D. To make sure my happiness doesn’t just last one day, I continued the regime for 2 weeks straight. In that 2 weeks I can finally sit in peace because I may have just found the right set of product for my oily skin. That is why I started to snap photos of this set for this review 😀

The scent of this serum is just the same as the facial wash. It’s also very herbaly, almost citrusy to my nose. But the scent disburse away after a few minutes. Because it’s only 10ml and it’s like a precious gold to me, I only used two pumps for my nose, inner cheeks, chin and forehead. Basically only areas that are oily. I suppose I will only need one pump if it’s the full size bottle.

Purifying Palmarosa Daily Moisture

To be honest this moisturizer works it’s best when it’s paired with the facial wash and serum from it’s category. I believe each of the product brings out the best in each other. But because this is the biggest tube in the set, sometimes I also used it alone along with other brand’s serum and so on. The trick is to use just a teeny weeny amount. As you can see from the dollop picture below, the texture is extremely runny for a moisturizer. Even storing it will require me to have it stand upside down so that the moisturizer doesn’t ooze out when I flip the cap open.

The scent is more stronger than the facial wash and mattifier but as usual disburse away once it’s fully absorbed into the skin. When the right amount is used, the moisturizer absorbed in very quickly, leaving no sticky or oily residue. It also makes a good base for makeup later on. Perhaps due to it’s light-weight texture my face doesn’t oil up on faster rate than usual. Usually I’d avoid this type of moisturizer but this one is particularly for oily skin so there’s no reason to be afraid.
