I don’t usually wear blood red lipstick but since it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow, why not eh? So I took out my Antipodes Hungry Like The Wolf Blood-Red Natural Lipstick that is still in it’s box, apply it on my lips and I looked like one blood sucker vampire that’s hungry for another round of fresh blood, as hungry as a wolf 😀

I’m kidding. Vampire don’t have a blood red lips on. They usually have almost black lips. Antipodes Hungry Like The Wolf shade is sexy on me don’t you think so? 😛

No, I’m not pulling my hair off haha! Truth to be told, I was intimidated with a blood red lipstick mainly because it wasn’t a shade that I would wear or a shade that I can put on as everyday lipstick. Previously Antipodes has three lipstick from their Aroha Natural Mineral Lipstick Collection which is more on the earthy, darker red side. Just early November 2013, Antipodes released Lipstick To Rock Your World Collection that consist of three lipstick shade namely Hit Me With Your Best Shot which is a fuchsia pink, April Sun In Cuba which is a reddish orange shade and Hungry Like The Wolf which is a blood red shade.

I like that Antipodes print the lipstick name on the front of the box hugely, together with the shade description just below the name. Spotting the shade name on the box is never this easy. As usual you can also find the shade name at the bottom of the lipstick.

The lipstick itself comes in a black rubbery casing. It’s very elegant and sleek. The simplicity of the lipstick is given a touch of creativity by placing a white peacock on the top of the cap. At least that’s what I think it is 😀

At one glance, this Antipodes Hungry Like The Wolf lipstick looks like any other lipstick but in fact the concoction of the lipstick is quite unique. This is a creamy lipstick that goes on the lips matte but gives a hint of shine. Confuse yet? 😀

On the bullet, the shade of the lipstick is more of a deep red that looks quite wearable. Once I swatch it on the back of my hand, I went gaga speechless. The shade payoff is exactly the same as their shade description stated – blood red. It is absolutely GORGEOUS, bloody bright red and creamy. The color may look intense but it took me three swatches to get one opaque swatch below. This means that if you want to turn this lipstick into an everyday wear shade, just swipe once across your lips lightly and you’re good to go! 😉

Here’s how it looks like on my lips. Whenever you are applying strong color like blood red, always use a lip liner prior to prevent the lipstick from bleeding out of the lips. I also strongly recommend dabbing on some concealer on the lip line before lip liner so that the shape of the lips are more prominent and clean. I did not use lip liner for below photos because I’ve forgotten about it oppsss but I clean up the lip shade using a concealer pen.

Whenever I’m using lipstick, I like to apply further in my lips. I cannot do the same for this lipstick as it keeps getting on my teeth and it looks like my gums are bleeding onto my teeth. However there’s a trick to that. If you are too like me, you can either:

– Put a finger into your mouth, suck your cheeks in and pull the finger out. This way the excess lipstick on the inside will all get onto your finger and not your teeth.

or,

– Apply one layer of lipstick, blot away with a tissue paper, reapply another layer of lipstick, blot away again and reapply the lipstick again. This will make sure the lipstick stays put on the lips and also your lipstick will last longer!

I like the creamy texture because it give me hassle-free flawless application and it went on my lips slightly matte. It’s not matte completely as I notice there’s a bit of shine on the surface of the lipstick. It feels soft on the lips, very comfortable and doesn’t feel heavy. I have dry lips but that doesn’t accentuate further with the lipstick on probably due to the intense color. Some of the lipstick settles into the fine lines but it’s not noticeable. Just remember to smile when applying your lipstick 😀 . It lasted on me for quite a good few hours with countless of cup sipping. I usually remove my lipstick before meal so I can’t really tell you if the lipstick last throughout the meal or not. But rest assured. Antipodes said their lipstick are so healthy that you could almost eat them 😉 . This Antipodes Hungry Like The Wolf lipstick is also my first all natural lipstick that is scentless. Yes girls. Scentless 🙂
