I totally missed out the part where this Little Black Primer™ will only be launch in February 2015 that I nearly scheduled it up for December 2014. Thank goodness I was referring to the press release while composing. That explains why I have to push this review to February. So sad that I’ve come to the last instalment of Estée Lauder week product review 🙁 . If you’ve missed the first two reviews, click here for the first review and click here for the second review 😀
Among the three Estée Lauder product I received over a month ago, the first one I started using the next morning is the Estée Lauder Little Black Primer. I was actually most excited with this one here because I don’t need to photograph it before using AND I have sad, droopy lashes.
Now, the Estée Lauder Little Black Primer™ is a 3-1-1 lash primer. No it does not contribute growth to the lashes as this is a makeup product BUT that doesn’t make it any less interesting. What this product really is that it is (1) a lash tint for ‘barely visible’ lashes, (2) a pre-mascara primer that hold curl, gives volume and length and (3) a post-mascara primer that sealed the mascara and gives it a waterproof coating. Tell me that is not intriguing. I’ve never heard, seen or used anything like this before.
Estée Lauder believes that eyelashes are a lot like hair and it should be prepped and styled to look at its best. That is something I never give a thought before. I do like to treat my lashes with eyelash growth serum but prepped it? Never crossed my mind 😛 😛 . The look of the tube and the applicator is very much like a mascara. It doesn’t cause any harm if you do mistaken this as mascara because afterall it does gives the lashes the tint, volume and length when used on it’s own 😉 . In fact I loveeeee Estée Lauder lash product because they made the slimmest brush and we all know how much I hate big fat brush. The brush is slightly curved to the shape of an eye. With the tiny brush bristles, there isn’t any problem at all manoeuvring into small and tight corners, catching all the tiny sad lashes 😛
Product wise, it’s pretty much similar to mascara. What I notice is that Little Black Primer is lighter in consistency and dries down pretty quickly. I never ever wait for it to dry and set before applying mascara. I don’t remember if this has a scent to it or not. Usually Estée Lauder mascara is scentless and since I can’t remember means it doesn’t smells yucky or nose clogging.
I’ve tried and used Little Black Primer for all three of it’s purposes. On days where I don’t feel like applying mascara (mostly weekend) but didn’t want to walk out of the house feeling naked, I used it as a Tint. It’s like a mascara except that it doesn’t coat the lashes thickly like a mascara and it holds the curl perfectly. The formulation is lightweight so you don’t have to worry that it will weight the lashes down. It gives the lashes a hint of color and your bare lashes are as if shouting “hey I’m here!” to everyone that stares at you. Well, that’s how I feel without mascara. Just look at the Bare Lash photo. After applying eyeshadow, my lashes are pretty much coated and barely visible.
Most of the time I used it to Amplify my mascara. This product acts as a foundation before applying mascara. It gives the lashes volume and length while holding the curl up. So when you apply the mascara, you will find that out of the sudden your not-so-good mascara became the best mascara you’ve used. Not because the mascara changed overnight but it’s because you had a good foundation on.
I stay away from non-waterproof mascara although half of you might hate the formula because it’s very hard to be remove. Waterproof mascara and smudge-proof is totally different. I always make sure to get oil-proof/smudge-proof mascara because I have oily lids and under eyes. Even the most waterproof mascara will smudge on me. No kidding. Since I can’t be throwing away RM100+ worth of mascara, I Set it with Little Black Primer. The mascara stays on all day long without a single smudge on the under eye. I know you’ll be curious on the removal part for this product. Yes, it is so waterproof, so smudge-proof, so long lasting that it is absolutely tough to be removed. I’m someone who can and will spend time removing every traces of eye makeup but this…this really challenges me to a whole new level LOL. On a contrary side, it’s not tough to remove at all when used as primer before mascara. But I’m okay with it since I only use non-waterproof mascara once or twice a week.
Since this is the last review *sob**sob*, I thought of including a photo of me using mostly Estée Lauder products for the look below. Don’t mind the gloomy photo. It was cloudy when I took the photo.

Alright. I’m sold by looking at the comparison between bare lash, a coat of primer and added mascara. The consistency is similar to mascara. I can skip mascara and yet getting the same result as wearing mascara^^
You’re right! Another way you can use it is to apply after non-waterproof mascara. This will zap it up and keep it waterproof. Oh wait. I remember you said a few days ago that you are skipping mascara lol. Okay, try this solely instead 😉
Wish this came in a clear option. I’ve been looking for a transparent priming formula that helps separate my lashes and keep them tidy without colour. I have pretty dark lashes naturally and now that I’ve spent three months growing them, I don’t want any more length.
This product has made a difference to your lashes though and I can see why you like it.
Most of the clear ones in the market are just a gel. I bought so many and it does absolutely nothing to hold the curl 🙁 . Funny thing is, when everyone came out with a white base, I wish they come in black 😀 . Unlike you, I need the boost in color, length and volume as my lashes are pathetic at the moment. Bad hair day last for a day but bad lashes day lasts for weeks. I’ll let you know if I found any clear one!
