By now you’ve already heard about the hype, knew what was the hype and you might be one of the lucky 200 users to be a part of the hype. That’s right. Bourjois Malaysia did something that blew my mind completely. This well-known French cosmetic brand decided to give away 200 units of the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque to 200 lucky fans who submitted their details through Bourjois Malaysia Facebook page in conjunction with the new release.

It’s not hard to gauge what exactly is Rouge Edition Aqua Laque. It comes in a short dainty tube just like it’s sister, Rouge Edition Velvet, which is my most used lip product at the moment due to it’s long lasting. When ‘laque’ is added to the name, one would automatically expect something that is high shine or glossy. Just take a look at the shiny top cap. Okay, I’m not going to mess up your mind further. This Rouge Edition Aqua Laque is a hybrid lip product of lip gloss and lipstick 🙂

The care package that I received contain a set of three carefully selected Rouge Edition Aqua Laque. There is 02 Rosé On The Rocks, which is a rose nude shade, 04 Viens Si Tu Roses, which is a raspberry shade and 06 Feeling Reddy, which is a bright peachy red shade. Overall, I got three different shades from three different shade category with three different intensity. Ain’t that thoughtful? 😉

Rouge Edition Aqua Laque comes with a reasonable size doe-foot applicator. I really do love this type of small tube with short applicator wand as I can really maneuver the applicator around the shape of my lips easily. Maybe because I’m not a lip gloss user so I find these to be much more convenient. Lip glosses with long wand scares me 😀

I usually do a ‘sniff test’ when it comes to any lip product and I was intrigued to find out what does these smells like. That is because Rouge Edition Velvet has a plasticky scent to it that I don’t quite fancy. It does goes away after a few second so it wasn’t that bad. The good news is, Rouge Edition Aqua Laque doesn’t have any of that plasticky scent. However it does has some other scent. When I put it on my lips for the first time, I thought it smells familiar. It smells like chocolate with liquor on the center. I’m a fan of such chocolate so it is such a delight to apply onto my lips. I’m not saying it contain alcohol in the product. That is what my nose pick up. Scent preference are very different on everyone. I’m curious to know what’s yours!

This hybrid lipstick is quite interesting. Usually such product are usually glossy, rich and slightly sticky. Not this Bourjois one. The texture is relatively quite watery. That is because it combines a high concentration of water with Nymphea extract for that moisturising ability that could last up to 10 hours. It is light, smooth, not a slight stickiness at all and it feels as if it is minty. Because of the wet formulation, it is extremely glossy looking. The lighter shade might be a tad bit too sheer but the brighter / darker shades are super high coverage.

02 Rosé On The Rocks is the second lightest shade among all eight shades available. This colour I refer to as the confusing one. Why? Because on the tube it looks like a pinky nude shade. Something that I would like. I literally shriek in happiness when I saw this lol. However it’s a different story on the lips. The shade is something like a light red/maroon aka MLBB kinda shade. It is quite sheer. The wet formulation makes application a challenge for me. It went on quite streaky and the more I try fixing it, the worse it gets. I tried to line my lips in advance but hated that the lip liner are peeking through Aqua Laque. It really took me quite some time getting the hang of it and I finally found a way with the application.

The shine does goes away a little bit through food and drinks. BUT the color and moisture stays put on the lips. Needless to say, I didn’t need to reapply throughout the whole day. This is the shade I would go for when I want my natural lip color to peek through.

04 Viens Si Tu Roses would be my favourite shade among the three. It is the ‘balance’ shade for me in terms of the color – not too light and not too bright. I find this shade to be easier to apply due to the shade intensity. Same with 02 Rosé On The Rocks, I used dotting motion to line the entire lip line to avoid streakiness. Yes, for some reason this product is quite streaky. Also due to it’s watery formulation. What I do is to apply straight as soon as the applicator is pulled out, without getting rid of the product excess on the rim of the tube. This way I get a more opaque coverage.

Things just keep getting better, isn’t it? The brighter / darker the shade it is, the more opaque the coverage is. Just look at 06 Feeling Reddy here. This shade is a bright red shade. But there is a hint of peach in it. So the shade is really extreme. According to Bourjois, Rouge Edition Aqua Laque does not contain any butter or wax in it so that the color stays undisturbed.

Here is 02 Rosé On The Rocks that I wore the other day to Spotlight The Mines Shopping Mall media event. I wanted to have a natural, simple makeup and 02 Rosé On The Rocks is the perfect shade for the occasion. I didn’t want to wear any eye makeup but somehow ended up with sweeping the brown from Bourjois Smoky Stories 06 Upside Brown all over the crease to give my eyes some depth and color. The lip shade goes hand-in-hand with my no makeup makeup look 🙂

I’m not going to be like everyone else and ask you to run over to Bourjois kiosk or Watsons to get it right away because it is quite a tricky lip product to apply comparing to the rest. My advise is to try it out first, on the lips if possible to get the feel of the application, product texture, scent and so on. It is not so much on how it feels on the lips because Rouge Edition Aqua Laque feels very comfortable on the lips. Such a high moisturizing product does not require any lip balm prior. It will only make the product slip away. It doesn’t dries up the lips, doesn’t settle into lip wrinkles and when the shine disappear, it leaves a tint on the lips. I didn’t even realise I have it on my lips! That’s how comfortable it is 🙂 . Once you tried it on and you know you can’t go home without any of it, do try to get a darker shade. Darker shade for me in this case is easier to apply and the shade tones down to a tiny bit lighter than freshly applied. And when you do go home with one, two or even five tubes, PUCKER UP!
