Believe it or not, I find that matte foundation are hard to get here in Malaysia despite the fact that we are living in a hot and humid country. Yes there are a small selection of matte foundation available but the choices are very limited. I’ve own half if not all matte foundation I can get my paws on. Some are too matte that it dries out my skin from the inside and I ended up with more oil secretion on my face. I have a “hard to please” face people. So hard to please. So when Bourjois Malaysia posted up the new Air MAT on their Facebook page, I was intrigued.

Air MAT is specially designed for those who are looking for a smooth, light AND matte finishing foundation that are long lasting. Typically from what I understand, matte foundation are more long lasting due to the formula. Air MAT got its name from what the foundation is infused with. You guessed it right. AIR! The “air” in the foundation are said to give the skin a soft, smooth texture so skin are able to breathe comfortably.

The tube is a flat squeeze type, which can be a disaster for foundation IF the foundation is too liquidy. This Air MAT is not. It is quite thick so there is no oozing foundation whenever I unscrew the cap off. And with a squeeze tube like this, I can control the amount I need easily.

All in all, there are only four shades available in Malaysia – 52 Vanilla, 53 Beige Claire, 54 Beige, and 55 Beige Dore. 51 Rose Ivory are not brought in as it is too pinkish for the majority yellowish skin tone.

The foundation has a scent to it. I cannot pinpoint the exact scent for it but it does not smell bad don’t worry 😀 . The texture feels smooth and somewhat gel-ish. The consistency is creamy and thick. Pigmentation of it are superb. I learnt that Bourjois used specially-coated pigments that provide fresh, long-lasting colour throughout the day. Does this mean no oxidization? We shall see about that 😀 . You know. Every foundation oxidize on my skin 😛

For foundation usually I would go for the lightest shade. I have a fair face and since foundation oxidize on my skin, it make more sense for me to go for the lightest. In this case I would have to go for 52 Vanilla, the lightest shade we have here. At first I was shocked as the payoff is so yellow. It is more yellow in real 🙁 . In fact I’ve never used such a yellow foundation before. But I always set with a powder so the yellow bit is not a big issue for me.

As a matte foundation, Air MAT is not as dry as I thought it would be. It is much more easier to apply and spread than my Burberry Velvet Foundation. It has a smooth consistency to it that makes application a breeze. The coverage is ahhhmazzing. On me it’s a full on full coverage foundation. I am so happy with the coverage as I get to skip concealer. In fact I dab a bit more of this foundation on my jawline to cover all the acne marks. Works best with this tip I posted a few days ago 😉

Once the foundation sets, it feels velvety on the skin and I did not feel as if I was wearing a foundation. The airy light texture is true. It has extra-fine mattifying powder, zinc extract and tiny silica beads to absorb excess sebum minus mask effect.

I have no idea what was wrong with me that I happily finished up my makeup, went for lunch, and went out shopping that I had totally forgotten to take a photo of a full face with makeup like I usually do. It was only when I was driving home that I remembered I missed one photo LOL. Mom suggested that I can still take the After photo with full makeup on as she said my makeup still looked fresh and flawless as a few hours ago. Now, my mom don’t usually say anything about my makeup (except for that one time I over-contour my cheekbone 😛 ) so this means I must still look good. I went home, take a look at the mirror and yes indeed. My makeup still look nice and flawless as a few hours before that. Mind you I walked in the mall for a few hours and tried on a dozen of clothes. My face still look OK!

As for the 24 hours claim, I cannot comment anything on that because I did not had it on for 24 hours. But I do notice a bit of shine on my nose, which was normal for me. However if I do use a different setting powder i.e. a matte setting powder, I find that my nose does not turn oily. Eventhough so my nose turns oily after a few hours, the foundation does not budge. It stays on. But I do need to touch up if I ever blot. Everywhere else pretty much are still oil-free 😀 . I did not find the foundation to oxidize on me. In fact the foundation changes to my skin tone instead of the original yellowish shade.

If you have been going back and forth whether you should give this Air MAT foundation a go, do give it a go. Highly recommended from me. What’s not to like? It has a full coverage that is able to covers everything, lightweight and long lasting.
