Matte liquid lip is in trend. It is so highly sought after that almost every brand came out with something. And that makes every girl run for their life to the nearest store to get it. Silkygirl, our very own local brand too jump onto the whole matte liquid lip bandwagon with the release of Matte Junkie Lip Cream. When I found out about this from Instagram, it took me a few weeks to remember to check on it. And when I do, I could not find it anywhere! Then the chase begun. Everyone I know was literally hunting for it. I was told that it was sold out everywhere. Why am I not even surprised? Everyone from every corner including their mother and grandmother bought it. Hence the limited stock available. I gave up searching for it until one day I went to One Utama for lunch with my friend Charmaine and we walked pass a secluded Guardian store. I walked in randomly without any high hope that I will find anything. Guardian is my favourite drugstore to visit as they carry Catrice, which is my favourite drugstore brand at the moment. But voila! All the tester seems new and untouched and every single shades are fully stocked up. I love secluded store LOL.
After swatching all five shades, I settled with 02 Glamour while everyone went for the safe shade i.e 01 Retro and 04 Vintage. No doubt Retro and Vintage are gorgeous everyday wearable shades but I have a lot of similar shades at home. And I like a bit of pink in my lipstick and 02 Glamour is the perfect fit. My friend Charmaine agreed too.
Now, I think you know by now why everyone went crazy over these Silkygirl Matte Junkie Lip Cream. It is because (1) it is within our reach aka easy to find and buy without going through oversea pre-order, (2) it is by far the most affordable matte liquid lip around, (3) it has wearable shades, (4) it is comparable to oversea affordable brand such as ColourPop. Each of it retails for RM21.90 and I got mine at a sale price of RM18.78 after store discount. The extra discount makes it even more affordable.
The packaging is nothing to shout about. It comes in a tube packaging with a normal angled doe-foot applicator. For something this affordable, its doe-foot applicator is actually pretty good.
Overall, Silkygirl Matte Junkie Lip Cream comes in five shades. Phew! Thank goodness just five and not more than that. The five shades are 01 Retro, 02 Glamour, 03 Rebel, 04 Vintage, and 05 Vixen. Below are the swatches, before it dries down.
Do not be fooled with these freshly swatched Matte Junkie Lip Cream because the shade changes after it dries down complete. 02 Glamour for example are more dull and wearable. When it dries down, it turns to more pinker. Pinker than what I expected. Let’s just say I was shocked during my lunch haha!!
I wore it after my lunch and I love it! I wore it again and again, and I love the hint of pink in it. The shade brighten my entire face up. Absolutely no regret with the shade choice. The only downside is that this is really similar to ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip, which I reviewed not too long ago. It is DRY. It CRACKS. It goes on PATCHY.
Despite having a good doe-foot applicator, the product goes on the lip patchy and uneven. The texture is lighter than NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream which I hate and also feels lighter than ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip. All I can say is the product sits more comfortably on the lips than ColourPop UML.
As you can see, it does accentuate every single fine lines and wrinkles you have on your lips. It does not goes well over lip balm or anything oily or waxy. I tried layering on my trusty NYX Butter Gloss and the lip cream melted and became patchy. Paris B said she layered on Dior Lip Addict and it turns out to be prettier and longer lasting too. I shall try her trick soon 🙂
If you are looking for a nude lipstick but still want a little (just a little) hint of colour, 02 Glamour is perfect. Because I smile a lot and I do not want other people to see a prune-y cracked lip, I have not been using this Silkygirl Matte Junkie Lip Cream these days. I love the shade but not the dry formula. My favourite matte lip cream to date is ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip.
So, do you need to jump into the car and drive to the nearest drugstore? I say NO. There is no need to because this is OK but not great. By now I notice all counters around Klang Valley are sufficiently stocked up so, chill girls. Initially I wanted to pick all five up for review purposes as it was only RM18 each. Thank goodness I listen to my friend Charmaine to just calm the f***k down and pick one. Just pick one she said. I am glad I did not end up with five now that I think back 😀

I also picked just one shade, 01 Retro. It’s something I never had before. You’re right, Matte Junkie dries macam gila but luckily after my first usage, I revised my application. I am now happy with using Maybelline baby lips underneath and then followed by Matte Junkie. It dries but it doesn’t feel painful to the lips, the colour stays nicely and it doesn’t chap. So yeah, I found my preferred way to use it now ^_^
Glad that you found a way to use it 😉
I was kind of disappointed too… I got the red one and although it swatches good on the hand, it is very VERY streaky on it lips. Building it up is a nightmare! And after it dries down, a couple of smiles and boom, cracks galore!
I agree with you. Every colour swatches nicely on the hand. On the lips it is so streaky. Trying to fix the streakiness is even worse. I bought the Kat Von D yesterday. A reader told me it is so good so I was tempted. It is seriously good!
Have you tried the Elianto ones? I feel those formulation is much better. And they have a couple of new deep shades that are absolutely gorgeous!
Elianto nope. I heard the lipstick version of Silkygirl is also good in terms of matte lipstick.
Not perhaps better than the KVD though. I wouldn’t know though… 😛
