It is no secret that I adore Physicians Formula. I still remember how I started dipping my toes into the Physicians Formula hype that was raved by all US beauty bloggers and Youtubers. It is this Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation. This is the foundation that got me into Physicians Formula. But, it was tricky. Tricky because the brand Physicians Formula was not present in the Malaysia market back in 2014. And I have to search for one from an oversea online store that is cheaper and willing to ship to Malaysia. You girls are so lucky now as Physicians Formula was finally launched in Malaysia in early 2016. Buying any Physicians Formula product is so easy now as you can just walk into Watsons store or shop at Watsons online store. And I also found out recently that Physicians Formula have their own online store. Even better!

Now, back to one of THE BEST foundation I have ever tried. I have a love and hate relationship with this Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation previously. First of all, the reason why I bought it years ago was because I have heard how good this foundation was. It is a skincare + makeup type of foundation that has anti-aging benefits, mainly in improving the appearance of dark spots, age spots and sun spots over time. Hence the name “Spotless”. Plus the big ‘look up to 10 years younger’ stamp on the box is really alluring lol. I want to look younger over time using a makeup product. Do you? 😉

I remember that everyone at the US raved over this product for 3 things – skincare benefit, excellent moisturizing foundation and the broad spectrum sunscreen protection. Honestly we in Malaysia are exposed to such a strong and harsh sun that the SPF15 on it is like a peanut compared to the usual SPF50 PA++++ we used. So I can understand why users at the US like the broad spectrum sunscreen even if it is SPF15. Understandably the weather over there is colder and most of them are not into layering skincare or separate sun protection application like us. So SPF15 is better than nothing.

Previously I bought the lightest shade available, which is shade Light. The shade is slightly more yellowish on me but after it sets, it sets to my skin tone. Odd but it happens. That is because this foundation has 35% silicone formula and true color pigments in it that gives the skin a weightless liquid veil that feels as if you have no makeup on. When the shade blends with my own skin tone, it looked like my skin. And now, Physicians Formula had launched three new shades that are created especially for Asian skin tone. Instead of the usual Light, Medium, Dark shades, you can now get Fair, Light Beige and Sand.

Everything remained unchanged. The box packaging, the bottle design, pipette dropper and even mini Pro Blending Brush included. The pipette is long and the bottle’s neck is secured with a plastic stopper. The opening of the plastic stopper is slightly bigger than the pipette diameter so do be prepared for a mess. I find that foundation left inside the pipette tend to get harden and gooey so my advise is to squeeze out the remaining foundation back into the bottle after you are done. This way, there will be no foundation left in the pipette that will turn hard and gooey.

As for the brush, hmmm sorry to say I am not a fan. Let me tell you why. This is a serum foundation which means it is very watery. The brush is a little bit hard and tend to leave streaky marks. It is particularly useful for any corners on the face like the nose area but for the whole face I recommend using either your fingers, beauty sponge or a brush. Anything that is able to blend the foundation on your face the lightest way. I used to use my fingers (I’ll tell you why below) and now I prefer a beauty sponge.

Now the new shades. What’s so different with it? Sadly I finished my old bottle of the Light shade until the last available drop that I’m unable to do a swatch comparison. Light used to be the lightest shade in this Youthful Wear range. Not anymore. Fair is a porcelain light shade. So fair that my skin tone is too dark for it. Light Beige on the other hand is my current new shade. It is tiny bit darker than the old Light but on my skin, it is actually my shade. Sand is the darkest among the lot. From the bottle it looked hella dark but when I swatched it for the first time, I was surprised that it is actually just a medium brown that suits probably medium light to medium dark skin.

As this Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation is a watery type of foundation, I am not able to dispense out onto the back of my hand as it slides down all over my dress in no time. So I like to use a makeup palette. I mentioned that I had a love and hate relationship with this foundation and that is because of the scent. It smells so bad. So woody, so earthy that I cannot put my finger into describing the scent. If you use a brush to apply this foundation, the scent lingers on the brush for ages lol. And yes, you will still smell the foundation on the face after some time. It used to send chill down my spine but now I have grew out of it. I am okay with the scent now surprisingly. You can say I am used to it 😀 . If you don’t want the scent to linger on your face for hours, use your fingers to apply. This is the only method I find works. I was also trialing out the new Breena Beauty Blending Pearl and so I used it with this foundation. I never like how Beauty Blender work with this Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation, but Breena Beauty’s Blending Pearl work like magic with this foundation. I will explain more on this in the review soon 😉

I don’t know why. Somehow I find that the coverage is more than the old version. It is also more sweat proof. Maybe they did something with the formulation? It used to be really sheer like your own skin. But this new foundation still look like my own skin BUT SO MUCH BETTER. It covers everything that needed to be covered without looking thick or cakey. It still look like my own skin. Amazing. I would live through the yucky earthy scent for this LOL.

Despite being a watery foundation with skincare benefit, this Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation is nothing but fantastic. It goes on matte, something I was surprised a few years ago but love about it. It holds up the entire day without me worrying if my face had turned oily or it had slipped. It looked absolutely flawless and beautiful in real and in photographs. By the end of the day my face looked healthy dewy, not oily. That is why I can never stop gushing about this foundation. I love it then, I love it even more now. This is my love ❤️

The downside. I wouldn’t really call this a downside, just a minor issue which is not a biggie to most people. You know I am a cleanliness freak when it comes to dirty makeup 😛 . That is the leaking on the stopper. If I shake the bottle hard, I find that there are foundation leaking out the stopper. When I put back the pipette into the bottle, I get foundations everywhere on the bottle neck due to the narrow hole. This issue however I find gets lesser and lesser as I go through the foundation. This is what I experience with the first bottle I finished. Mid way the leaking issue stopped. Is this an issue? Not issue. The foundation doesn’t leak out of the bottle to the outside. I happen to like my belongings clean 😛

Have you tried the Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Youth Boosting Spotless Foundation? No? Why no? RUN for it! It is seriously good despite the awful scent lol. I still think it’s pretty cool that this serum foundation that is so watery has excellent oil control and impressive staying power. This foundation gives you the most beautiful and flawless look, regardless in real or in photos. I get asked all the time what foundation I am wearing everytime I had this foundation on.
