Canmake Make Up - Eyes Review: Make Up

Review: CANMAKE Eyeshadow Base; The Good, The Bad but Not Quite There Yet

Of all products that I received recently from CANMAKE event I am particularly interested with the Eyeshadow Base. I had my mind set to do a review and so here it is 🙂

The on-the-spot demonstration blows my mind. I was shown how intensive eyeshadow color is with the use of this base. So I guess it is up to me to test the base for longevity eh?

CANMAKE claims:
● This creamy base will provide just the right amount of coverage in a color that will blend in well with your skin, enhancing the color and translucence of your eyeshadow.
● Harmonizes with your powder eyeshadow to enhance the pearl effect and improve the color.
Improves the adhesion of your powder eyeshadow to your skin, making it last longer.

CANMAKE packaging has always been my favorite when it comes to drugstore Japanese cosmetic. I like that the case is clear so you can see the content clearly. Despite the case is made from plastic, it is durable and not as fragile as it look. I have never seen any eyeshadow base that is housed in a pan like this one. Honestly I would prefer this over tube. This pan-case is more user friendly and I can see how much product is left on the pan and restock one if it’s finishing. However comes the hygiene issue. I’m quite particular on hygiene part but surprisingly I’m okay with this. Like I said I would prefer pan-case than tube.

It is light and small so tossing this in makeup pouch is not space consuming at all. I couldn’t find the gram of the product anywhere but trust me it is not little at all 🙂

The texture is the most interesting one. It is creamy and slightly oily, just like foundation on a pan. Totally different from what I think it would be because every other eyeshadow base I ever used is nothing like this. It is absolutely soft to touch and so easy to spread on the lid without having it looking cakey. There is only one shade and that is Skin Beige. The color won’t be too light. Once it is blended the color just disappear.

The downside of this creamy oily texture is that it might not suit people that are with oily lid like mine. What I do is I will dust some loose powder on before proceeding to eyeshadow. This will prevent early creasing.

CANMAKE is not kidding when they said this base will enhance the pearl effect and improve the color. In the below With and Without swatch I am using RMK 15th Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette #02 Gray. Look at the color payoff with CANMAKE Eyeshadow Base 🙂

I’m not too worried about the color intensity of eyeshadow. I’m more into anti-creasing and longevity of my eye makeup. So I put this base to test. Not once, but a week in a row.

Here’s the outcome. This is taken around 5pm. That’s about 9 hours from the time I put on makeup. As you can see it is not as crease-free as I expect it to be. The creasing started when I hit the first 4 hours. The eyeshadow has already faded as well. CANMAKE also said that this base with just the right degree of softness prevents eyeshadow gathering in the crease of your eyelids. I guess that doesn’t work for me and my oily lids eh?

I personally wouldn’t recommend this to oily lids or oily skin girl because of the base creamy and slightly oily formula. This base would work best for normal or dry skin as it provides the hydration needed.

If you are not aware yet, Japanese eyeshadow are quite sheer. Having a good eyeshadow base is equally important to pop the color out. For this point I think CANMAKE Eyeshadow Base does a pretty good job in enhancing color intensity. If only the base works better in preventing creasing. Unfortunately it doesn’t. I wouldn’t think this is a bad eyeshadow base. It is just not suitable for my oily lids that’s all.

  • Not to talk about the product itself but about the price… canmake, unlike other prestigious japanese brands, is clearly overpriced when it comes to malaysia..
It is something like rm15-17 actually for this base. I know the transportation will add to it but oh well the air ticket double the price?
This is why I would rather save up and buy higher end brand. I dislike the idea of paying a lot more than what it is

    • You mean if you buy from Japan directly after forex conversion it’s about RM15-17 only? I didn’t know that! I think RM39.90 is quite cheap comparing with others lolz

      • yeah rm15-17 thats why canmake is sooo popular in japan.. coz it is cheap and of good quality! actually many of the drugstore brands are a lot more expensive in msia but not the highend brands.. i wonder why

        • I think it’s quite normal to mark up the price a bit here. Can you imagine we use Malaysian RM to buy stocks in Yen? So yeah 🙂
