DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein define original – modern – real
DOWNTOWN, the latest women fragrance from Calvin Klein simply means “capture the essence of the confident woman”. Let’s take New York as an example. Every young women in New York see down town as the “it” place. Downtown is a term primarily used in North America to refer to a city’s core (or center) or central business district, often in a geographical, commercial, or communal sense.
down ∙ town:
it’s a mindset, urban and original.
my own world, no rules. it’s just me.
DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein specialty lies on the bottle. It features a light pink bottle with a natural curve at the base that is feminine and spell simplicity. That’s not all. Another specialty is the silver cap that have a unique hollow design. Rather than the conventional cap on every other perfume in the market, this one in particular is not solidly covered. You can see the obvious see-through top on the cap, making the cap extremely light weighted. Let’s not forget the bright fuchsia accent that adds an electrifying, modern edge to the overall look and feel of the fragrance.
This fragrance falls under the woody floral category. If you are familiar with Calvin Klein line of fragrances, my guess is you will probably know how the scent is by now. The identity certainly doesn’t stray too far away. It balances feminine woods with a soft, floral scent to create a confident, modern fragrance with a unique signature and an unexpected edge.
DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein fragrance opens with bright top notes of Italian cedrat, bergamot and Tunisian neroli. A contrast of pink peppercorn dusted over violet leaf and gardenia petals enhances the feminine sophistication is added in as the middle note before infusing with a dry down of Texan cedarwood with touches of incense, vetiver and warm velvet musks as the base note.
The scent description in a nutshell.
top: Italian cedrat, bergamot, Tunisian neroli, green pear, watery plum
mid: pink peppercorn, violet leaf, gardenia petals
dry: Texan cedarwood, incense, vetiver, velvet musks
DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein advertising campaign is fronted by none other than the beautiful actress Rooney Mara, and although not as young as most. It is reportedly targeting to lean towards women age 25 to 35.
As explained by Catherine Walsh of Coty on the scent strategy.
“This group of consumers lives by its own rules. We’ve put together a superaspirational scent. Globally, consumers see downtown as a place they want to be. They identify it with youthfulness, edginess and cool.”
The advertisement campaign carries the concept of authentic individuality through a cinematic portrayal of a confident, urban woman. Actress Rooney Mara and Director David Fincher created the instantly iconic, black-and-white campaign that tells the story of a young woman living in her own world, breaking away from the ‘expected.’ set in New York City, the short film portrays the multi-faceted life of a globally recognizable actress who always remains true to herself.
The design concept for DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein doesn’t just stop at the bottle. It is carried through to the outer packaging with a Mylar fuchsia carton that represents a strong femininity. A circular texture inspired by the cap conveys the individuality and uniqueness of the DOWNTOWN Calvin Klein woman.
As for me? I am Happy. Most of you know I am Easy Going as well. But most importantly, I am ME.
