I learnt yesterday that one of philosophy‘s inspiration is on the lowercase writing. Philosophy uses lowercase writing to remind us to live life with curiosity, wisdom and joy. That explains today’s lowercase title 🙂

So you’ve heard. And it’s true. Philosophy has finally landed at our Malaysia shore at all Sephora outlets nationwide to be exact, just three weeks ago. I get to learn the science behind the products and I get to be the “scientist” for a moment too. I’ll explain further below. The preview was divided by three chapter – Chapter 1 : Skin Care, Chapter 2 : Fragrance and Chapter 3 : Bath & Body.

Chapter 1 : Skin Care

I always said that cosmetic is to enhance beauty and true beauty comes with a healthy skin. What you want to achieve is a perfect canvas and that is great looking bare face. All Philosophy skin care are result-driven skin care that stems from a rich medical heritage steeped in science. The formulation of the products are gentle on the skin, even for sensitive skin users and yet it’s effective. The overall brand discovery was more enlighten with the presence of Robin White, Director of Global Press for Philosophy who travels around the world and communicate Philosophy’s mission and product offering so that the consumers are well-informed of the latest Philosophy trends and advancements within the skin care industry. Over the past years during her early tenure in the company, Robin also worked closely with Philosophy Creator and Founder, Cristina Carlino as well as involving in the product development and collaborated with the sales teams in order to bring unique Philosophy products to customers worldwide.

Dr Hew Yin Keat, founding member of the Malaysian Society of Aesthetic Medicine and current Vice-President was also present to share with us his thoughts on skin care and how the ingredients used in Philopsophy skin care range are effective and beneficial on our skin.

Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes (240ml – WM: RM85, EM: RM89)

Dr Hew said choosing the right cleanser to start the skin care regime is important. You need a cleanser that doesn’t strip off most of the natural face oil from the skin surface as that will cause skin sensitivity. This multiple award winning line of mild cleansing products efficiently remove your face and eye makeup while giving your pores a deep cleanse and at the same time keeping the skin hydrated. This duo product set is the first product we tried out at the press preview that makes us feel like a scientist for a moment. There’s a lot of ooohhhs and aahhhs moment including myself.

Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer for Normal to Oily Skin and Hope In A Jar High-Performance Moisturizer for All Skin Types (60g – WM: RM140, EM: RM147)

Philosophy believes skin care should be effortless, something that I couldn’t agree more. So Hope In A Jar was one of the cream formulated with this mantra in mind. It is also the very first product created in order to benefit women of all skin types and conditions while being multi-tasking and easy to apply. This face moisturizer was originally created to cater the medical market. Although it has went into the consumer market, it is still one the the moisturizer recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists today. Hope In A Jar’s beta glucan and lactid acid helps to hydrate, protect, and reinvigorate your skin. As for the catchy name? It’s to help you to remember the important things in life.

Both version have this special souffle texture to it. Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer will suit anyone that doesn’t like stickiness on their face and of course anyone who are with combination to oily skin. However Hope In A Jar High-Performance Moisturizer is not bad either. It suits all skin type, not greasy at all.

Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Retinoid Pads and Solution (60 Pads – WM: RM275, EM: RM289)

As the name suggest, it is created to work miracles on the most common signs of aging such as unwanted lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, dehydration, rough texture, dramatically improve skin discoloration and promote flawless clarity. This duo is also one of the set that comes with two items in it. The Retinoid Pads are dry so one would need to pour in the whole bottle of solution into the pads before using it for the first time. But how do you use a Vitamin C powder and implement it into daily skin care regime? Turbo Booster C Powder is to be mixed with your favorite water-based serum or moisturizer on each usage. It must be done fresh during application and not pre-mixing it in advance. There is a spatula provided. When it comes to skin care, there must be at least one facial oil or else it will not be complete. Fatty acids from omega 3 and 6 helps to nurture the skin while unsaturated omega-9 help to stimulate the skin’’s natural process of renewal and regeneration, while maintaining its suppleness and elasticity. Almost every beauty oil is lightweight and this is not exceptional either. It is a lightweight oil that hydrates dry skin while protecting it against environmental attack. If Turbo Booster C Powder is to be used in the a.m, this replenishing oil is to be used in the p.m. If you suffer from irritated skin, this oil will be a great post peel or exfoliation treatment to soothe all the irritation away.

Chapter 2 : Fragrance

While Philosophy main focus is skin care, the brand also carries a small varieties of fragrances and bath and body products to cater to current lifestyle needs.

Philosophy believe that fragrance should not only make you smell good, but also make you feel good. You smell good so you feel good! You wouldn’t want to feel bad for smelling good right? Chapter 3 : Bath & Body

Daily shower should not be just a wash and rinse affair but instead it should be converted into a total multi-sensory experience and an opportunity to indulge, relax and emerge to face the day with a clean body and a clear conscience.

Philosophy bath & body products has been developed to infuse your daily life with a burst of joy and happiness. I thought it was so thoughtful of Philosophy to have created shower gels that double up as shampoo and bubble baths! Not only you get to experience a happy bath but a total head-to-toe cleansing experience, which caters to our current fast moving lifestyle. Philosophy body lotions on the other hand moisturize and hydrate thirsty skin.

There are three types of bath and body products to choose from. Flower lover like myself are offered a Field of Flowers collection, bearing that childhood fields in bloom scent. The Be Somebody collection on the other hand comes in serene scents like green tea and water lily that reminds you that to be somebody you don’t need to be great, but you have to be good. The basic range is the recipes and drinks collection such as Cinnamon Buns, Senorita Margarita, Raspberry Sorbet, Vanilla Birthday Cake and Melon Daiquiri. These are some of the mouth watering and delicious scents available.

I can go on and on about the science and benefits of Philosophy products so I highly suggest that you storm to any Sephora outlet to try, sniff and experience the products yourself. You will be happy to know that Philosophy skin care products does not contain any artificial fragrances so the product scent is quite natural, almost doesn’t have any obvious scent to it except for The Microdelivery Peel which smells heavenly like an orange.

If you ask me which Philosophy skin care to pick up if you’re new to the brand, I would recommend Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes, The Microdelivery Peel set, Turbo Booster C Powder and Hope In A Jar Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer. Those are the basic 3-steps. If you’re afraid that Turbo Booster C Powder is not suitable for your skin, you can try Miracle Worker Miraculous Anti-Aging Retinoid Pads instead. And of course how can you leave without grabbing a bottle (or three, or four) of the 3-in-1 shampoo, shower gel & bubble baths?
