That’s right. The Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is my absolute current favourite mascara at the moment. I have bought and tried a number of mascara lately but I haven’t found any oil-proof mascara except this one. I have this since mid 2012 sitting in my drawer without me even realising that this is truly an under-estimated hidden gem.
I have thought of not reviewing this because this mascara is from 2011 Holiday Set and I assume it’s a limited edition mascara that is not available at counter. I did a quick search online at Estée Lauder Malaysia website and you know what? This is a permanent mascara!
Mine is from holiday set so there wasn’t any box. The gold top and everything gold on the tube feels luxe. The gold top is also the reason why I assume this is limited edition mascara 😀 . That’s not why I like Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara. I’m always a fan of smaller brush and this one fits the bill. By size it’s smaller than other mascara brush but by length, this mascara didn’t lose out a bit. At first I’m not quite sure what to expect from small and long brush as I’m used to small, medium length brush. It turns out much better than expected. The brush bristle is also not on the same length from top to bottom. The tip is shorter and as it reach the base, it’s longer. So what I have here is a triangle-shape brush.
Another good thing about the brush and the mascara is that I notice there wasn’t any clumps of mascara on the brush surface, unlike other mascara I’ve used before. Maybe mine is still a few months old?
As I said earlier, I love the brush. It fits nicely on my small hooded eye. It’s especially useful since I have short lashes. It does separate each lashes apart, provided I let each coat to dry before applying another coat. Small brush means I can apply under lashes easily. Normally I use a miniature mascara for my under lashes. With Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara, there’s no need to do so 🙂
On another hand, I have a mix feeling on the lengthening claim. It does lengthen, no doubt but not drastically, which is the way I like. Sometimes I apply one or two more extra coat, it lengthens even more but my already-pathetic-short-and-stubborn eyelashes just went limp. No Shu Uemura eyelash curler can do any good to my lashes. They’re just plain stubborn.
So instead of wanting to achieve longer lashes by applying too many coats of mascara, I opted for just two coats, some extra length and volume. This mascara is pretty good with providing volume without the clumps.
That’s not all on why this Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is my current favourite mascara. The biggest problem for me when it comes to mascara is oil-proof and smudge-proof. Most mascara emphasis on waterproof or non-waterproof. Oil-proof or not really depends on each individual. Oil-proof is important to me as I have oily skin. I wouldn’t want to have smudges on the under eye whenever I’m talking to a work client. This one is what I need. It stays on all day long with NO SMUDGES at all. If there is smudges it’s either my eyeshadow or my shadow-liner lol 😀
Removing this mascara off will require more time and effort. This doesn’t comes off that easily. But I’ve read somewhere that warm water will do the job but I still prefer to remove it off using the proper way – by soaking a cotton pad with bi-phase eye makeup remover. If there is any residue left on my lashes, I will just wash it off under hot shower.
The bad news is I have no idea how much this mascara cost over Estée Lauder counter. It’s not that hard to find out anyway so it’s not a big problem afterall. In a nutshell, Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is a long-wearing, oil-proof, smudge-proof, lengthens, volumizing, separate each lashes and comes with a small but long brush head that distribute equal measures of length and thickness to the lashes. It’s not everyday that I get to find a mascara with small brush head that doesn’t smudge on me. This is one of the best mascara I’ve ever used!

Off topic. What eyeshadow palette you’re using? I like the bronze look of the photo when you’re looking down^^
Back to the mascara. It is so unique that it’s hard to be removed but yet easily went off under warm water. I hope it’s not too expensive. I never tried smaller brush before. Most brushes is huge.
I’m using It’s Judy Time eyeshadow palette 😀 . I don’t think it’s very expensive. Most probably around RM90? It’s hard to find mascara with smaller brush. RMK is still my favourite too. But it’s much more expensive.
I seldom apply mascara because it is always pain in the ass when trying to remove it. Sometimes if I soak the cotton pad and let it sit before I rub it off, seem like the make up remover then to go into my eyes. 🙁 My eyes are too sensitive. If I apply oil based make up remover, it will somehow go into my eyes again and make my vision blurred.
You’ll not like this one hehe. People always tell me RMK Extra Deep W mascara is super hard to be removed. To be honest I have no problem with that. This one gave me a challenge. It’s so hard to remove! So like you, I get makeup remover seeping into my eyes all the time.
